7 months Later.
In the sterile confines of the hospital room, Evelyn lay in a cocoon of bandages and medical monitors, her once lively spirit now muted by the aftermath of a brutal car crash. Beside her were the empty beds that once held her friends, Madeline and Louise, and her boyfriend, Noah, along with his friends, James, Mason, and Justin.
Evelyn's eyes, dulled with pain, scanned the room, lingering on the vacant beds, each a stark reminder of the void left by those she had lost. A heaviness settled in her chest as the reality of being the sole survivor sunk in.
Rory sat by her bedside, providing the silent support Evelyn craved. In the midst of this tragedy, Evelyn felt the absence of her Father and her mother who hadn't bothered to check on her. The pain of their neglect cut deeper than any physical injuries.
"Why aren't they here, Rory?" Evelyn's voice, usually playful, held a fragile undertone.
Rory, reaching for her sister's hand, spoke softly, "Mom's at the inn, I don't think she's coming, Grandma and grandpa might come and I couldn't contact dad, his phone went straight to voicemail"
"...I'm not even surprised..."-Evelyn
"...You have me, That's something"-Rory
Without saying a word, Evelyn reached out and gently kissed her sister on the forehead. Rory's eyes lit up with happiness as bright smile spread across her face.
"You're right, it is something. Thank you for being here Rory"-Evelyn
"You like me? You actually like me?"-Rory
"What made you think I didn't?"-Evelyn
"You've been so distant from me since you moved in with dad but now you...you kissed me"-Rory
"I could never hate you Rory, I love you, you're my sister"-Evelyn
"I love you too Evelyn"-Rory
_______2 months later.
Evelyn stood before the graves of her former friends, Madeline and Louise, and her boyfriend, Noah. The air was heavy with grief as she struggled to articulate the words locked within her. With a mixture of sorrow and frustration, she began to vent, as if the gravestones held the key to unlocking the emotions she'd kept buried.
"...Why did it have to be you three?" Evelyn whispered, her voice breaking the quiet stillness. "You were supposed to be here for the party, for the adventures, for everything."
As she stared at the gravestones, memories of laughter and shared secrets flooded her mind. The pain of their absence gnawed at her, and Evelyn began to vent, speaking as if they could hear her.
Evelyn whispered, "I miss you guys so much. Madeline, your laughter, Louise, your unwavering support, Noah, your mischievous grin. It's like a piece of me is missing, and I don't know how to navigate this world without you."
As she spoke, a gentle hand landed on her shoulder, and she turned to see her twin sister, Rory, standing there with empathy in her eyes. Rory spoke softly, "Evelyn, you don't have to face this alone. We're in this together."
Evelyn, her eyes welling with tears, nodded appreciatively. "Sometimes, it just feels like I can't breathe, Rory. I never got to say goodbye properly."
Rory hugged her sister, offering comfort. "They knew you loved them, Evelyn. You don't have to carry this weight alone. We can lean on each other....Come on, let me take you home, it's cold."
