Chapter 8

a week later

Jenna spent most of the week with Val. Sharna would call her up once in a while to check how she's handling things. Today she had to go in for an ultrasound, Sharna was picking her up to go with her. They were just about to leave when Val came up to them

"Where are you two going?"

"Um- the doctor" Jenna answered nervously

"The doctor?! Why? Are you alright?"

"Yeah I'm great, we're just going to get a quick ultrasound, that's all"

"No you're not"

"Wha-"

"You didn't think you're going to get our baby's ultrasound without me, did you?"

She was speechless

"No, she just thought that you were going to be busy so she invited me" Sharna broke

"Well I'm not and I wouldn't miss this for the world, so if you both don't mind"

"Yeah of course"

They got to the doctor and got called straight in

"Welcome back Mrs. Johnson. I see you've brought your.."

"Husband. This is my husband, Val and my friend, Sharna" Jenna interrupted

Val lowered his eyebrows

"I guess we should just get going and see how this little one is doing, shall we?"

Jenna laid down and lifted her shirt up, uncovering her stomach. The doctor poured the gel onto her stomach and started spreading it with the probe. Val and Sharna locked their eyes on the screen.

"And right there is your baby" the doctor said, pointing to the middle of the screen

He kept moving the probe around for a little while and printed out some screenshots of them. The room was silent

"Wow, I thought that the baby would be just a little smaller than that.." Val said

"Well your wife is about 2 months into her pregnancy and this is just about the average size of a baby" The doctor replied

Val's eyes widened and glared at Jenna. She locked her lips together and avoided trying to look straight at him. The doctor finished up and exited the room not long after, leaving just the three of them

"I just need to use the bathroom for a sec" Sharna excused herself

Val stood up and walked around the room, hands both on the back of his head

"Look, I'm sorry" Jenna broke the silence

Val stopped and looked at her

"Sorry for what? For marrying me or for the fact that, the baby in there isn't mine?"

"Val-" her voice cracked

"The doctor specifically said that you were into your 2nd month of pregnancy. We're barely married for a fucking month Jenna"

tears came running down her cheeks

"I can explain"

"I don't want your explanation okay? The only thing I'm going to ask you now even though I probably already know the answer to is, is that my baby?"

"No"

"Great job"

He walked out of the room and left her. Just as the door was closing behind him someone grabbed his wrist and stopped him
