Three more hours passed before her family was able to see Lia in her room. The nurses moved her to the ICU and would keep monitoring her progress.

Asa and Seraphina went to see her first. Seraphina was holding Asa's hand as if it was her lifeline. He did the same. The antiseptic scent and the faint beeping of monitors filled the air, creating an eerie atmosphere. Seraphina's grip tightened around Asa's hand as they approached Lia's room. Her heart pounded with each step, with the harsh reality of the present.

They paused at the door, drawing in a deep breath. Asa gave Seraphina a reassuring squeeze before gently pushing the door open. The sight of Lia, so small and fragile against the stark white sheets, caused Seraphina to stifle a sob. Tubes and wires connected her to various machines, a testament to the battle her body was enduring.

Asa led Seraphina to the side of the bed, his presence a steady rock in the turbulent sea of emotions. He gently placed a hand on Lia's forehead, his thumb brushing a stray lock of hair away. "Hey there, nugget," he whispered, his voice breaking the silence. "It's Asa. Seraphina and I are here."

Seraphina sank into the chair beside the bed, her fingers delicately tracing the outline of Lia's hand, careful not to disturb the IV line. "Lia, it's me, Sera," she said, her voice trembling but tender. "You're so strong, and I know you'll come back to us. i missed you so much. We love you so much."

They sat in silence for a while, the only sounds were the soft hum of machines and the rhythmic beep of the heart monitor.

A soft knock on the door broke the stillness. Roman entered the room with a somber expression. He nodded at Asa and Seraphina, his eyes reflecting the same mixture of pain and hope. He approached the bed, his usually strong demeanor faltering as he looked down at his sister. Asa and Seraphina walked out the door. Not before Asa gently kissed Lia's forehead, promising her he would be back soon in a low whisper.

"Hey, princess," Roman said softly, his voice thick with emotion. It was only him and Lia in the room. He placed a gentle kiss on her forehead before stepping back, his eyes lingering on her peaceful yet bruised face. He couldn't help the guilt he was feeling. "I don't know if you can hear me." His voice was thick with emotions. "I'm so sorry princess, so sorry I couldn't protect you."

Roman looked at Lia's face. She had a big cut on her bottom lip. And one on her left brow. Her jaw was bruised, a mixture of purple and yellow. Her left eye was red. Swollen shut. She had a bandage wrapped around her head matching the one on her forearm. Roman's gaze tailed lower. Following every visible inch of her bruised skin. Her tattoos did nothing to cover the bruises on her arms and neck.
