**James POV**
"I'm sorry to inform you, but James, you only have one month to live." I felt my mother tense beside me at these harsh words. She crumbled after a few seconds, heartbreaking sobs being ripped from her throat. My father stood up, his sleek muscled body tensing, he looked as if he was about to punch something. He could seriously do some damage, seeing as he was the alpha of our pack. I was supposed to be his successor, but this news changed everything.
"How could this happen?" My father roared, his loud booming voice echoing off of the doctor's walls. Me, I just sat in my chair, trying to process all this. Trying to figure out how I could've gotten a disease. Me, of alpha blood. The doctor averted his eyes.
"I'm sorry sir, I'm not exactly sure how it happened. You can never really predict these werewolf illnesses in advance, it's nearly impossible." he said quietly, shrinking back from my father's sharp gaze.
"THEN YOU HAVE TO CURE HIM! HE'S MY HEIR!" My father yelled, causing the doctor to flinch. My dad rushed forward, grabbing the doctor by his shirt. I watched in horror as my dad's eyes changed from a light brown, to a bright silver. This was how you could tell he was getting really mad, that he was about to let his anger take over, that he was about to kill. My dad pulled his fist back, and i saw the doctor's eyes widened in terror, then shut quickly, anticipating the devastating blow.
"No dad!" I shouted as I lunged at my father. I stopped his fist moments before it connected with the doctor's face. The doctor opened his eyes slightly, feeling no pain. He gave me a glance, realizing what happened. He visibly relaxed, ever so slightly. He still wasn't out of the woods yet though. My father was seething with pent up rage, now even angrier that he couldn't have let any of it out. If he didn't get a chance to blow off some steam soon, his inner wolf would break free of its human bonds and go on a destructive rampage. This happened with all wolves, expecially the males. If they get too angry.. Watch out. He looked at me, his face frozen in a snarl, revealing his sharp canines. I looked at him, pleading with him, begging him to stop this nonsense. The look in my green eyes must've gotten through to him and his wolf, because his canines retracted a couple seconds later. He released the doctor and took a deep breath. I sat him down in the chair, his eyes were closed and he was taking deep breath. He was trying to calm down, trying to get his eyes to return to a light brown. I turned to the still-shaken up doctor.
"I'm so sorry Doctor Richards, as you can tell, my dad is upset as I am his only son. Are you sure there isn't anything you can do to save me?" He started to shake his head, then paused. Then he shook his head again. I looked at him, suspicion clear in my eyes. His eyes widened for a second, realizing his mistake.
"Doctor? What is it?" my mom's shaky voice called from beside me. I had almost forgot she was there, her sobs had subsided.
"Uh, it.. it's nothing." the doctor stuttered out. We all looked at him, eyebrows raised. He buried his face in his hands for a moment, then looked up at us, his face contorted in worry.
"Doctor." My dad prompted. Dr. Richards bit his lip. It was as if he was debating whether or not to tell us something. "Doctor." My dad repeated. "If you know something, you must tell us. NOW." I cringed. He was using his 'I'm the alpha so you better listen' voice. That scared me, even though he was my dad. Then again, being the 'runt' of the family, a lot of things scared me. Including the possibility of becoming alpha after my dad steps down from his position. Yeah, I know. A runt? an alpha? I don't like the idea either. But I'm his only son, and even though I have an older sister, it is tradition that only males can rule the pack. A male straight from the alpha line. Meaning whether I liked it or not, I would've become alpha. If it wasn't for this little... predicament. I watched my dad as he got angrier by the second. We all knew that Dr. Richards was keeping something from us, but he was clearly reluctant to tell. My father's eyes started changing to a dark grey. In a few seconds it would be a luminescent silver. Then my father would do something he would regret moments later.
