**James POV**

Three days ago I found out I was going to die. That leaves... 27 days to find my mate. 27 days to decide if I want to find my mate. 27 days to figure out what I'm going to do. I sighed. Why did this happen to me? I've always been a good boy, putting responsibilities before everything else. Except family of course. I knew what I had to do. My life had been pretty much planned out ever since I was born. I've recieved all the training to be alpha, all the things I needed to learn to succeed in life... Why? Just why?

"Mr. Maxwell? Are you listening?" Mrs. Morgan asked. I snapped out of my daydream, and looked up to meet her warm brown gaze. She was also a member of the pack, but I still haven't told the pack of my demise. When we got back from the hospital, they all knew that something was wrong, but they didn't know exactly what. I intended to keep it that way. At least, until I decided what I was going to do.

"Uh, sorry Mrs. Morgan." I said quietly, my cheeks reddening. I heard a few giggles from the class, but otherwise it was silent. I tried to concentrate on the lesson.. What was it? AP Calculus? I don't even know anymore. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm too young to deal with this. I'm supposed to die in a month, shortly after I turn 18? This was hard, for anyone to deal with. But more so for me, considering I'm supposed to take over a pack of over 200 wolves. I was supposed to be recognized as Alpha about 3 weeks after I turned 18. Mate or no mate. But that's not happening anytime soon.. I sighed again, this time quite loudly, earning me a few glares from my fellow classmates and the teacher. I blushed again, and hunkered down in my seat. I looked at the bell. Only 15 minutes left, I can do this.

Finally, lunch rolled around. I had been humiliated in all of the classes I had before lunch. I had a detention too. That's great. I never get detention, never. I let out another sigh, something I seem to be doing a lot lately. I sat at my usual table, just starting to daydream again, when I was tackled to the ground.

"Owww!" I cried out, as pain shot through the elbow that I landed on. I tried to get up, but to no avail. Someone was sitting on me.

"Emily! Get your big butt off me!" I shouted at her. I was face down, my face mere centimeters from the cold tile floor. Ewww, they really need to clean this place. The floor was absolutely filthy. I attempted to glare at her, but she obviously couldn't see me. I could just picture her smug expression. I grunted and groaned, trying to get up. Even though I was a werewolf, with super strong abilities, pushing 115 pounds of girl off me was still hard. Especially when that 115 pounds didn't want to move. Eventually, I managed to stand up. I gave Emily the best glare I could. If only looks could kill.

"Awww is itty bitty Jamie mad at mee?" She pouted at me, while batting her eyelashes and twirling a loose strand of blond hair around her finger. I looked into her big baby blue eyes, and felt my anger melt away. She looked like a little puppy when she did that. I burst out laughing, imagining a little blond puppy begging me to forgive them. It's little tail would give a shaky wag, eyes big and slightly watery.. That image just had me crack up for some reason. I sat back down at the table.

"Whatever, just sit down you big Butthead." I said to her, opening my lunch. I shook my head slightly, while smiling. Then I heard her gasp.

"You did NOT just call me a Butthead!!" She shrieked, causing some heads to turn. I saw it coming before it even happened. I expertly ducked, avoiding the slap that was flying towards my face. I looked at her, a mischievous sparkle in my eyes. I stuck my tongue out at her.

"Haha, missed me!" I taunted. I saw her eyes narrow... and soon after I was writhing in pain, on the dirty floor, clutching my groin.

"My balls! My balls! You kicked my balls!" I screamed, earning some laughter around the room. Usually I would be happy that I made some people laugh, but I was too busy being in pain to care. I looked up at her through teary eyes. She had an evil smirk on her face. She flipped her hair and sat down where my lunch was.
