I got up even though I didn't want to and got into my Guardian uniform. Ruka and Kain were still asleep on the couch. They had fallen asleep there after our tutoring session. I quietly slipped out of the room and out the door. Yuki was already trying to herd the girls into the gates. I helped her out. "Hi, Yuki," I said as I gently nudged a girl back behind the gate.
"Hey, Y/n. Thanks for coming out," she replied.
I shrugged. "It's my job now."
"True." The door to the Moon Dorm opened and Yuki and I made it so that everyone went to their gates.
I side-glanced at my gate and found that, like usual, no one was there. Kaname made an excuse that his hands were too full. I walked over to him. "Really?" I murmured.
He glanced at me. "What? I can't hold anymore."
I sighed. "Sure." I walked away and found Yuki had fallen.
Zero grabbed the little package that fell from her pocket. "Kuran," he called. Kaname turned and Zero tossed it at him. "You forgot one."
Kaname got it. "So I did." He turned and continued on his way.
"How did you..." Yuki said. "I was going to do it."
"Really? Because you were letting him get away," Zero replied.
"I...figured he had too much."
I snorted. "There's only one person's candy he wanted tonight and he got it," I said.
She looked at me. "Who?"
"You, dork."
She blushed. "R-really?"
I rolled my eyes then frowned. "Where did Zero go?"
She looked around and sighed. "Looks like he's bailing tonight."
I winced. Right, his vampire side tries to come out tonight. Funny how he's still fighting it even after drinking my blood. "Uh-huh." Together me and Yuki stayed up all night but I was worried.
A few hours later I was doing perimeter when a voice called. "Y/n."
I turned. "Zero?"
He caught up to me and held out a tiny box. "This is for you," he said not even looking at me.
I took it and found chocolate inside. I smiled at him. "Thank you." I ate one and put the rest in my pocket. I shut my eyes. Oh, I'm going to kill Ruka, Kain, and Kaname for making me not eat chocolate for the last few years. I opened my eyes again. "How are you doing?"
He glanced at me. "Fine."
"So you didn't almost just lose it a few hours ago?" I said raising my eyebrow.
He sighed. "You know me too well."
I shook my head. "No, I just know what happens."
"Right. I forgot about that for a minute."
"Lucky you," I muttered.
He looked at me. "What do you mean?"
I looked at him. "I'm constantly asked what's going to happen by some people."
"Kuran?"
I nodded. "He wants to protect Yuki and doesn't like what he's going to have to do."
He frowned. "What is he going to do?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I can't tell you and you know that. I can only tell you things about you."
"Do I kill the woman who killed my family?"
At that, I looked away. "No. Someone else does."
"Who?" I gave him a pointed look. "Sorry," he muttered. "Was she the one who killed your family?"
"Honestly? I have no idea. Kaname hasn't had any luck finding them."
"Is he even looking?"
"Yes," I said firmly. "You stay out of it, Zero. You have your own thing to deal with."
"Once the other hunters find out I'm...not human they're going to kick me out."
"Actually, they don't. They didn't even kick me out," I said. "I'm getting missions all the time."
"Wait, so I can still kill vampires?"
"You and Bloody Rose."
Relief slid into his eyes. "That's good."
I looked at him for a minute. "You're a vampire but you still want to kill them."
"I'm only going to be killing Level E's," he pointed out. "Ones that are on the list."
"What if they aren't on the list but you are ordered to kill them?"
"Then I'll do it."
"And have what happened to your family happen again," I snapped. "Shizuka attacked your family because your parents killed her lover even though he wasn't on the stupid list."
He stared at me. "You never told me that."
I looked away. "Because I didn't want to hurt you but now I had to tell you because I don't want you to make the same fucking mistake that made you lose your family." Though Ichiru is still alive. He's just not on the same side as us. I looked back at him. "Please don't make that mistake, Zero."
He looked at me. "I need to think about this."
"Okay." He walked away and I went back to the Moon Dorm. I tried to slip into my room and skip my tutoring session but Ruka and Kain were already there and waiting. I made a face. Dammit. I sat down and let them lecture me. This is pure torture.
