Bethany wasn't certain, but she had a strong suspicion that Jack may have needed the same release she so badly desired following their practice. When she went to the basement with the laundry, she thought she heard a moan or two from the other side of the door. Smelling the coconut fragrance when Jack opened the door only added to her curiosity. He did seem a little flushed when he came out.
Just the thought of Jack masturbating in her downstairs bathroom got her wet. She could envision it almost as though she watched every second of it. She would love to watch that and join in, too. After all, she just did the same thing herself.
As she watched Jack interacting with the two boys over pizza, she was struck by just how much they had in common. Obviously, the two boys were on the same traveling baseball team. That was a huge area of common ground—one that would have them seeing each other quite often. More than that, though, their conversation just flowed so easily. No long stretches of silence. No awkwardness. Baseball was front and center and she really liked that about Jack. Her ex-husband hated baseball and only grudgingly got involved with Xander's baseball activities. Jack immediately hit it off with Xander and clearly showed the same passion for baseball. He could be a very positive influence in Xander's life, she thought.
"Hey, you guys wanna stay and watch the game?" Xander offered, catching them all by surprise. "Yankees/Red Sox. Doesn't get any better than that.
"I guess we could stay a while," Jack said, tentatively as he looked toward Bethany. "As long as it's okay with your mom."
"That would be great," Bethany agreed. "Never miss a chance to watch my Sox."
"Wait, wait, wait," Jack said. "You're a Red Sox fan?"
"Don't tell me you're a Yankees fan," Bethany said in mock disbelief. "You're on the Dark Side?"
"Brian and I are both Yankees fans. All that tradition. All those titles. What's not to like?" Jack said.
"Well, I don't know if Xander and I can have a couple of Yankees fans watching a game with us," Bethany said in a matter-of-fact tone. "I think you two better leave," she said, just before breaking out in laughter, her warm smile putting everyone at ease.
"You had me there for a minute," Jack confessed. "I really thought you were a Red Sox fan."
"Oh, we're diehard Red Sox fans," Bethany replied. "I was just joking about you two leaving. We'd love to have you stay. Please stay and watch."
"Hey, bud," Jack said to Brian. "Think you can tolerate this Red Sox nonsense?"
"Are you kidding? That's the best rivalry in baseball," Brian said. "I don't care who they like. It's baseball, Dad!"
"Well, there you go," Jack conceded. "It's baseball. We'd love to stay."
The boys wasted no time. "Let's watch on the big screen in the basement," Xander suggested, and the boys headed down the stairs.
"Guess that just leaves you and me, Lord Vader," Bethany said with a smirk.
"You know, the Red Sox buy as many players as the Yankees do these days," Jack said, playing along. "How come they're not evil?"
"Had that whole 'lovable losers' thing going up until they finally broke The Curse and won the World Series in 2004," Bethany replied.
"Kind of like the Cubs in 2016," Jack noted. "Did I tell you I'm a Cubs fan, too?."
"No way. I'm a Cubs fan!" Bethany replied. "I love going to Wrigley. Who's your favorite Cub of all time?"
"Ron Santo," Jack replied. "Can't believe they waited until after he died to put him in the Hall of Fame." Pausing a moment, he then thought to ask, "Who's your favorite Cub?"
