The surprise gift of not one, but two pairs, of freshly worn panties from Bethany and, shockingly, from Claire, left Jack speechless. A dumb grin shone across his face as he looked incredulously at Bethany. Before he could even think of what to say, Bethany had booped him on the nose, kissed him quickly, and disappeared inside her room. "Good night, Jack Jack," he heard her say, giggling like a schoolgirl on the other side of the door.
Jack stood outside the door, looking down, unbelieving, at the very intimate gifts in his hands. Only a whistling Coach Callahan, walking towards him in the hallway, broke his momentary reverie. Startled, he quickly sunk both hands in his khakis, no doubt looking guilty as sin to the observant manager of his son's youth baseball travel team.
"You lost, Stirling?" Coach asked, stopping to see what Jack might be up to now.
Jack just grinned the goofy grin that had not left his face. "Just saying goodnight to Bethany."
Coach looked directly at Jack's hands, buried inside his front pockets. "Whatcha got there, Jack?"
Jack blushed a deep shade of red, desperate to come up with a response. Just then, Bethany's door swung open.
"Find your key card, Jack?" Bethany had evidently heard the conversation outside her door and thought fast to help Jack out of a difficult situation.
Glancing at Bethany, in relief, he managed to slide one hand around to his back pocket to produce the key card. He raised it up to show the coach. "Right here," he grinned.
Bethany noticed the obvious outlines of the balled up panties she had just given Jack bulging from the front of his khakis. They weren't the only things bulging. "Coach," she said, getting between the two men to distract him. "What happens if we get rained out tomorrow? I see the forecast doesn't look good."
Jack looked on, grateful for Bethany's interference.
"Yeah, not looking great for tomorrow," the coach said. "Probably have a team outing somewhere, depending on if it's a total washout out or just part of the day."
"If I remember right, they have a Dave & Busters near here," Bethany continued the distraction, hoping Jack was able to sort himself out. As a veteran of several seasons as a travel ball mom, Bethany had been to all the facilities and knew some of the attractions in each city.
"I think you're right," the coach agreed. "Great idea, Bennett." He still seemed curious about what was up with Jack, but Bethany's smiling face and cute figure had effectively redirected his attention.
"Glad to help, Coach," Bethany said, turning to be certain Jack was presentable before slipping back inside her room. "Night, guys."
"Good night," Coach replied, now face to face with Jack.
"Night, Coach," Jack added, stepping aside to let the coach continue on his way.
Coach gave one last look at Jack before heading down the hallway, then stopped and turned. "Stirling," he said, watching Jack turn around to answer.
Jack froze. "Now what?" he said under his breath.
"If we do get rained out tomorrow, I'll need chaperones for whatever we decide to do with the team," Coach explained. "Can I count on you?"
"Always, Coach," Jack replied, sensing he really had no choice.
"Good man," the coach said, turning to continue down the hall, whistling once again.
Jack breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the coach disappear down the hall.
"Thanks, love," he said to the door, knowing Bethany was still listening on the other side.
