It was a beautiful day for a hike. After enjoying some leisurely time exploring some of the more sensual posts on the private blog they'd created, Jack and Bethany enjoyed a hearty breakfast as they prepared for a day of hiking. Jack's property on the edge of town had acres of woods to explore together. A modest cabin-like home boasted a spacious back yard fringed with oaks, poplars and pines among others. Deer trails criss-crossed the property, perfect for traversing the picturesque expanse.
Jack Stirling, a freelance environmental writer, had insisted on keeping the rustic house, located in Minnesota's northwoods, as a key component in his divorce settlement. His ex-wife, Sarah, was more of a city girl and had agreed to leave the home and property, if only to offer some continuity going forward for their son, Brian. Now Jack was thrilled to be enjoying his woodland oasis from the world with Bethany.
Bethany Bennett, also somewhat recently divorced, was excited to be spending more and more time with Jack. Since meeting at an early spring orientation meeting for their sons' 10U travel baseball team, they had been virtually inseparable. As a teacher, Bethany loved having her summers mostly free, allowing her to spend more time with her son, Xander. Xander had become fast friends with Brian as the season began, often enjoying practices with just Brian, his mom, and Jack.
Jack and Bethany had been spending time at each other's homes as their sons bonded and their own relationship blossomed. Now that the weather was warm, Jack was eager to get Bethany out into the woods and show her his favorite places for viewing wildlife or just getting some much-needed together-time in nature, away from the demands of work and a rather extensive travel baseball schedule.
For her part, Bethany couldn't have imagined a better situation for her and her son since the divorce. Jack was everything her ex-husband was not. His love of baseball and nature closely mirrored her own passions. Having Jack as a father-figure for Xander was really more than she ever expected. The divorce had taken a huge toll on her self-esteem. Jack was quickly rebuilding her confidence in herself and was already a solid and dependable influence in Xander's life.
Although Jack's job took him on frequent assignments to some of the most beautiful spaces in North America, he was able to arrange his schedule to travel with his son to baseball tournaments throughout the season. Since the start of the travel season, he and Brian had made the trips exclusively with Bethany and Xander, driving to and from tournaments and creating some wonderful new memories. Having some time away from the games, however, was a welcome respite for them both.
A doe and her fawn stopped by the edge of the woods at the back of Jack's property just as he and Bethany stepped out of the house.
"Oh, Jack, look!" Bethany pointed. "And we're not even in the woods yet."
"You'll see a lot of that around here. Deer, wild turkeys, the occasional fox, eagles...you get the idea," Jack said, enjoying Bethany's enthusiasm.
Bethany smiled, placing an arm around Jack's waist as they watched the two deer who were now watching them. "They don't seem scared by us at all."
"That's the beauty of living in the northwoods," Jack replied, turning his gaze back to Bethany. "A front row seat to nature in all its glory."
Bethany met his gaze, appreciating the implied compliment. "All its glory, huh? Sounds like you'd like to see something else...or someone else...in all its glory."
"You know me so well, love," Jack replied, brushing a lock of Bethany's shimmering blonde hair from her face as he kissed her.
"That I do, babe," Bethany said, returning the kiss and dropping her hand from his waist to gently squeeze Jack's ass through his cargo shorts.
