A Few Hours Later

Fisting the steering wheel, I drift into the graveyard parking; tears of wrath roll down my face as I snatch my keys, shut off the car, and step outside before I head toward the trunk of my car.

Forcing it open, I keep my eyes shut, the horror in front of me, "I failed you," I start by saying with a sob, "You were my brothers." I grip the car trunk as tears roll down my eyes and land on the bags.

"You saved and protected her, but I couldn't save you guys." My eyes dart open, and two bags, two white bags, zipped up. And two bodies cradled into a kneeling position. Sighing, I start by gripping the first body, the name tag saying.

Davin Hale

When I found him outside, he was brutally burned, and he was unrecognizable; if it weren't for his outfit and scar that he always hid behind his wrist, I wouldn't have known it was him.

I heard footsteps approaching me from behind, and I felt their glares behind my back. I glanced toward them, Adelia and Dean.

They both had red, swollen eyes; Adelia had an eyepatch across her left eye, while Dean had bandages wrapped around his right hand. It was chopped off in the war, and Adelia lost her eye fighting with Raus and more of Elias's man.

Before I could kill the fucker, he had stabbed me in the chest and made a run for it like the coward he fucking is.

"Are you ready?" I ask. They both nod, and my gaze darts toward Adelia, whose eye is filled with rage, "Let's do this."

I watched as Adelia unzipped Finn's bag, revealing his grey-brown skin and a headshot wound. His brown eyes were left open when he died in front of her, but she closed them as a sign of peace.

Her cries were soft, and it broke my heart as she cupped his cheeks and placed a soft, gentle kiss on his chest.

Kneeling, I wrapped my arm around her shoulder; meanwhile, Dean glared at his body, still frozen in disbelief. I would be, too; his two closest friends are dead.

And it's all my fucking fault.

They died in this war because of me; I did this; I got them killed.

I have no clue if Celeste is wounded or not. Callums called to let me know where they were, and the cries and screams in the distance of Celeste told me they were alive.

How will I tell this to Callum? His brother died, his boyfriend died, how the fuck do I tell him this, "So I'm an assassin now," Adelia suddenly said with a swallow of her throat.
Fuck. The Twin Rule.

An assassin, the fucking rules.

They were twins till one of them got killed or died, and the alive one became the next assassin, Finn wouldn't want this for her, he wouldn't want her to risk her life just for me, "No" I say. She slowly glances at me.

"I can't risk your life," she frowns, but I continue: "I'm setting you free, Adelia. I want you to live a normal life and have a family of your own. That's what Finn would have wanted." She scoffs, laughing to herself.

"I saw my day one get shot in the head by a person YOU said was dead!" I still, her yells cut through the thick, dark, silent air. "I will not live a normal fucking life till I have Raus's fucking head on a stick!" she then raises, leaving Dean and me alone.

Hearing her runs slowly disappear. Dean steps forward. "I'll start shoveling." I nod and raise to my feet. Turning beside Finn, my eyes dart toward Davin, and they instantly water.
