I was always closest with my great great grandparents, even though they are like 120, and I am only 17. They had aged incredibly well and could still pass for in their 40's. When they graduated they became Aurors, and it became the family buisness. I honestly have no ambitions to work for any form of government, not the ministry or monarchy. Especially after being an Auror took everyone in my family except for my mother and great great grandparents. The Aurors in the family were at war with the Death Eaters being led by our distant cousin Tom.
It was the four of us against the world since Grandpa Ominis never spoke to or of his family, other than his aunt Noctua. She had left him everything of hers, he always spoke of her kindness to others. Clearly things had become far more complicated for the family with the rise of the Death Eaters. Everyone thought we supported them, but we were the ones fighting against them with the little we had left. Our family may bare the Gaunt name but none of their beliefs.
I always stayed two weeks with my grandparents in the summer before I leave to protect the Graphorns from poachers. My grandmother always had a strong to the magical beasts and tried to keep them from extinction, a passion we both shared.
One day my grandparents pulled me aside to talk before I left for the coast. "Remember the bedtime stories we told you of me saving Hogwarts and the life of a dear friend?" My grandmother asked gently.
"Of course those were my favorite one to hear about my grandmother the hero." I said with a lighthearted chuckle and smile.
"I know you've been at Hogwarts for 6 years now and I wanted to ask if you had ever seen any of the same magic I would tell you about in the stories." She asked me with tears in her eyes worry written all over her face. I watched as my grandfather grabbed her hand and gave it a squeeze.
"I see weird glows from random objects sometimes but it's never there for long." I answered truthfully thinking I had just imagined the glow. I've always been told I have an over active imagination, and I tend to let it run wild.
I heard a sigh of relief from her, "That's good to know sweetheart, we need someone with ancient magic over at Hogwarts." She must've notice the look of confusion on my face and continued, "We've always told you of our close friends Anne and Sebastian but we never told you why they never came around." I nodded for her to know I was listening and to continue, "Sebastian fell very ill during the summer between our sixth and seventh year, no hospital knew how to help so I used blood magic and ancient magic to send him to one of my descendants."
"Then how come we still haven't heard about him, why hasn't it already happened?" I asked completely bewildered by what they are telling me.
"That my dear is where you come in, I can feel something coming. I believe you will be the one able to help him with new knowledge and you having ancient magic. I also hope you can help him and Anne finish there last year at school, so much has changed I worry he'll do something reckless if left to his own devices." My grandfather said shaking his head. He always knew when something was coming, he had developed a sixth sense to make up for his sight.
"Why me though, you still have your abilities." I say still unsure of what all was happening.
"But you are the reason the spell is bringing him to now," my grandmother said while holding my hand, "you are capable of more than you know, you're such a smart girl you will figure it out."
"I will do my best to save your dear friend." I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze and smile.
My grandparents had already sent my bags ahead while I was saying goodbye to my mother. After giving her a hug I turned to my grandparents and squeeze them close, "I promise to do my best to help your friends." And with that they each gave a kiss on my cheeks before I left in a flash of green from the Floo Powder.
"Off on another adventure are we?"
I rolled my eyes, you'd think in two hundred years she'd become less annoying.
