I looked at Imelda and let out a small squeal. Electricity buzzed through my body like pure excitement. I flopped back onto my bed with the biggest smile on my face.
Imelda sat beside me, grinning.
"You have got to spill if he's got you this happy."
"Are we talking about the hot new Slytherin?" Daphne Greengrass, our other dorm mate, asked from across the room.
I sat up and smiled at Imelda, trying to ignore Daphne's remark. I mean... he was hot, but still.
"I didn't think I would ever see him again," I admitted. "We met this summer at the very beginning. He doesn't even have to try and I'll smile."
"Aww, are you in love?" Daphne teased.
My head snapped toward her.
"It was only three days, Daph," I sighed. "He did write me a goodbye note... I just never read it."
I looked over at Imelda, who was practically vibrating with excitement.
"Read it!" she insisted, shaking my arm.
I pulled the folded letter out of my trunk and carefully opened it for the first time. The smell of old books and vanilla filled the air immediately.
⸻
Dear Delilah,
It's been three days, but it feels like it's been a lifetime.
You light up every room you walk into. You've invaded my every thought and every dream.
You have become a good friend—
⸻
Friend.
Friend?!
I froze, staring at the word as a small pit formed in my stomach.
"Hey, I was still reading that," Imelda complained from over my shoulder. "It was just getting good."
I laughed softly and continued reading.
⸻
You have become a good friend, always bringing a smile to my face. You read to me when I was sick and annoyed me into taking my medicine.
You've made me care for you more than I've ever cared for anyone.
I will find my way back.
I promise.
Yours truly,
Sebastian
⸻
"Damn," Imelda said immediately. "Boy's got it bad."
She started repeating the letter to Daphne, but my heart was pounding too loudly in my ears for me to hear them clearly.
"Well," I said, trying to sound calm even though I felt anything but, "with that note... I bid you both a good night."
I quickly changed into my pajamas and climbed into bed.
Sleep, however, never came.
My mind raced, replaying every word of the letter.
Overanalyzing every sentence.
He had never actually said anything about us being more than friends.
⸻
Sebastian's POV
As I walked back to my dorm, I couldn't stop the smile spreading across my face.
