As I walk into the hospital with Sebastian barely awake and draped over me, I notice the receptionist eyeing Sebastian and Anne's clothing.

I glance down at myself and suddenly realize just how different we look.

I'm wearing jeans, a band tee, and a cardigan.

While they look like they just fell out of a fantasy novel.

I shake the thought away and focus on the situation.

"Hi," I say, trying to sound calm. "He has a fever, chills, trouble breathing, and extreme fatigue. Is there any way he can be seen tonight?"

I offer a small polite smile, hoping she won't ask too many questions.

"Just fill out these forms and I'll get him checked in," She replies, handing me a clipboard.

"Thank you."

Anne and I shuffle toward a row of chairs and carefully lower Sebastian into one. The second his weight leaves us, we both collapse into the seats beside him with a shared sigh of relief.

I begin filling out the forms, asking Anne questions whenever I don't know the answers and can't fudge it.

Suddenly Sebastian's head drops onto my shoulder.

I jump slightly.

His eyes flutter open as he looks up at me, clearly dazed.

"You know," he murmurs, giggling softly, "I was best friends with your grandfather."

His arm snakes around my waist and pulls me closer.

"Your grandfather... well, and your grandmother," he continues dreamily. "But Ominis and I were very close."

His eyes narrow slightly as he looks at me.

"But you," he adds with a goofy grin, "are just sooooo pretty."

He tries to boop my nose, and just misses completely.

I glance over at Anne, who is struggling not to laugh.

"Is he okay?" I ask with a quiet chuckle.

"He just gets a little loopy when his fever gets high," she says with a shrug.

I nod and continue filling out the paperwork.

When I finish, I try to move Sebastian's head off my shoulder.

He groans and immediately buries his face closer into my neck.

Anne takes the clipboard from me, barely holding back her laughter.

I watch her bring the forms to the desk while silently pleading for help.

She returns and moment later and sits down again.

"No can do," she whispers with a grin. "He's found a comfortable spot, and I'm not moving him."

Before I can protest, Sebastian somehow tightens his arms around me.

"Sebastian Sallow?"

Anne and I both groan as a nurse calls his name.

I carefully untangle myself from him before Anne and I haul the tall, feverish boy back to his feet. Together we half-carry him toward the nurse.

She eyes him with concern.

"His condition didn't sound this severe on the intake form."

"He comes from a small remote farming town," I say quickly as we follow her down the hall. "He's not used to being around this many germs."
