Not Good Enough Part 2: Enough Yet? ~A Diggy Simmons Love Story~

{Chapter 9...Valentine's Romance}

Daniel. . . .

I peeked inside the house then called out loud for Aubrey. I got no answer so it was clear for me to start. I wanted to get this ready for Aubrey before she got back from dropping Ava off at Carla and John's house. I had plans to light some candles, turn on some music, and spread rose pedals on the bed. We were going to stay in our bedroom all tonight and through Valentine's Day.

I walked in to the room and took the sheets off the bed. I put the old ones in the washer then put on some fresh new ones. I made the bed so that it was perfect then grabbed my box of roses and pedal. The pedals were spread all over the bed and across the floor. Full rose flowers were scattered around the room.

I grabbed the other plastic bag then started placing the candles in different spots. I placed then perfectly where they needed to be then stepped outside the door to see if it looked okay.

"She's going to love this." I said to myself then walked in to our bathroom. I took a quick shower and washed my hair. I got out then tossed the towel in the closet. I made sure to put on something nice. I sprayed myself in her favorite cologne that I own then laid back on the bed. Then I realized that I forgot to light the candles.

I went in to the kitchen to look for some matches. I checked every drawer in there, but I couldn't find one. I began to panic. Then I remembered that we put matches in our bedroom to keep them up from Ava. I went back in to our room then checked the night stand. There were matches, but there was also an envelope. It was pretty big and when I picked it up, it was a little dense.

I opened it then saw a lot of money sitting inside. "What the hell?" I mumbled. There had to be at least $1000 in here. I reached down to the bottom of the envelope and found a note.

'Aubrey, I know you don't want anything to do with me, but you still need my help. I'm your brother so it's my job to help you in anyway I can. I promise that when Dan proves that he can take care of you and Ava, I'll stop, but for now...you need this.
-Devin.'

It all made sense. The random amounts of money, the secrets she's been keeping, even that weird call from this morning. Upstate Correctional Facility didn't call by mistake, he called and she tried to make it seem like it was nothing. I sat down on the bed and stared at the money and the note.

Why the hell would she tell him about our situation? It was bad enough I thought her parents knew, but to tell Devin...unacceptable.

She's going to tell me everything tonight or I'm walking out on her and this marriage.

Aubrey. . . .

"Danny! I'm here!" I yelled in the hopes he was here too. I took off my coat then watched as he walked up to me with a rose in his hand. I smiled then gave him a kiss. He kissed back then handed me the rose. "Aw, thank you baby." he smiled then grabbed my hand. We stopped in front of the bedroom door.

"Close your eyes."

I smiled then did as he said. I heard the door open then I opened them. "Baby! This is amazing!" I said as I walked in to the candle lite bedroom. "I'm happy you like it." he took a seat on the bed then looked down at his feet. I could sense something was wrong.

"You okay babe?"

I sat next to him. He sighed then pulled out something from the side of the bed. "What the hell is this?" he asked. It was the money Devin gave to me. "Um, how did you find that?"

"Never mind how I found it, why is it here?" I didn't respond. I was going to tell him. I just didn't think today was going to have to be the time. "Aubrey, either you tell me now or I leave and never come back." he looked me sternly in the eyes. "Okay...I-"

"And if you lie to me then I'm done, I already know everything. I just want to hear it from you." I sighed then nodded. "Alright, I've been talking to Devin for a while and he knows about our situation so he wants to help." he shook his head then looked down at his feet. "Im sorry Dan, I told him to stop leaving us money, but now he won't leave me alone." he sighed. "So, you got yourself in to another problem and now I have to get you out of it...like always." I pushed my hair behind my ear then watched as he got off the bed. He stood over me then just stared. "I'm sorry."

"I don't think sorry is going to cut it, Devin is dangerous and if you piss him off then you basically put our whole family in danger." I shook my head. "Devin won't do anything to us." I assured him. "We've been talking for a while so I know that he won't hurt us." he chuckled. "Oh, so what? Do you have this new brother-sister bond with him, now? I don't know if you remember this, but I recall him being in jail for trying to murder your husband."

I sighed. He was right. But that still didn't excuse the fact that if he was honest from the start, none of that would have happened. "What in the world possessed you to ever speak to him again?" he asked. "Well, one day my dad called me over to talk while I was pregnant with Ava and he started going on and on about forgiveness and how I should consider reaching out to him." suddenly, I sawDan bawl his fist up at his sides.

"Your dad suggest that you talk to that bastard?" I slowly nodded. "Yea, but it wasn't his fault." I argued. "I didn't have to listen to him."

"No, I have a bone to pick with him. Put your stuff on, we're going to your parents house."
