Enika/Evelyn's POV:

"Eve, I did say that it is probable but I don't think, it is," Cesare said which made me raise my head from the book I was reading and look up at him, meeting his tensed gaze.

We were in the library, and I was reading a book. Which book? Why, isn't it obvious by now, I was reading 'Top 20 reasons someone could kill a nobility'. Yes, there is a book by that name.

But that is not important, what is important is that after the breakfast Cesare had finally uttered some words for my precious ears. I mean why follow me all the way to the library when you are not going to say anything?

I guess, he had something to say after all.

"Which probability you are talking about, Cesare," I said raising my eyebrow.

"That, Cassius is plotting something against me by killing you."

"Cassius who?" I said. I think I have heard this name before. Who was it? Ah, I don't seem to remember.

Looking at my confused face, Ceasare added, "You might not remember him, he is the second prince, my brother, you accused yesterday of plotting your death."

"Is it?" I said disinterested. I think I have known this name from somewhere else...but what does he mean accused? I just put forth my points. But then again it was his brother. I mean I won't believe it if someone just told me my brother was plotting against me. Only, here they are political rivals.

"Look, Cesare, I am not accusing anyone, I was just trying to connect the dots. And you are very much allowed to defend your brother, but keep in my mind that he is not just your brother but also second in line to the throne." I tried to reason.

"I will consider your words." He said and I turned my gaze back to the book.

"On that note, Cesare, aren't you the crown prince, how are you so free, dilly-dallying here? I mean shouldn't you be in capital?" I said looking up to him and was met by his upset eyes. Wait, does he think that I don't want him here? I mean I don't mind I was just asking if he had nothing to do with being the Crown prince and all.

"Not that I hate your company", I said trying to do damage control. "I just meant that you must be busy with your work. But you are still here, I am honoured."

"You should be." Well, that is rude. "Besides, Father had instructed me to spend some time with you, since you had an accident and that I should cater to your needs, given your family is so important."

He could have just said that he wanted to spend some time with me, instead of bringing my family name...well who am I kidding, 'with me', 'my family', I think I have become way too comfortable here these past days that I had forgot that this was all supposed to be for Evelyn, the real one.

"As for work", he continued, "I have entrusted Cassius with it, he is quite reliable."

"So wise of you", I said in a sarcastic tone which he didn't seem to like. I mean I don't need an oracle from gods to realise where this is going, I mean even if Cassius isn't the one involved, he is surely plotting something against his brother.

"He isn't like that, I assure you", he said his tone not at all assuring. Well, why do I want assurance, oh yes, he can kill me. I think I need to know what kind of person this Cassius is, but how? And then the light bulb lightened.

"Cesare, why don't you invite your brother, I mean wouldn't it be better if I met him for myself, and decide whether he is what you think he is or what I think of him,"  I said and he was taken aback. I mean what they say, 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer'.

"Why, yes I shall write to him today, and you will see for yourself that my brother is a literal saint." He said and then he snapped his fingers, and a piece of paper appeared out of thin air and with a quill with which I was taking notes he scribbled something on it, and then snapped his fingers again.

"What was that?" I asked.

"I sent him the letter, why are you asking such a basic question." Oh sorry Sherlock, that I am not aware of magic which seems to be ingrained in people of this world. I rolled my eyes and then went back to reading my notes taking my quill from him back.

"We'll see, how much of a saint your brother is."

Well, I think I am being mean now I haven't even met that guy and have already made my assumptions about him. I don't know I mean last time I knew a guy named Cesare who was this trusting of people around him, he was killed by his senate and literally backstabbed by his own friend(if they were friends, to begin with).

But let's see, how this Cassius is.

And then hit me, oh Cassius, and Cesare, oh, shit.  What was the author thinking? I think this novel is more of a political thriller, than a murder mystery.
