Leo's POV

"What the fuck is wrong with you today!" I wince at Owen's voice echoing throughout the gym. I already have a headache and can't deal with his noise on top.

"Hello to you too," I grunt, propping the weight from the chest press back onto its hook. After Ivy stormed out, I needed to relieve some of the frustration before I lost control and dragged her back in here.

I hated the way she spoke to me earlier but my body seemed to have a different reaction. I was hard as fuck when she bit me and I still have her teeth marks embedded in my skin two hours later. Each time I'd lift the weight above my chest I'd catch a glance of it, making me push myself more than I usually would.

Owen stood above me, fists clenched.

"What has gotten into you? Ivy is in my room crying right now, thinking that you brought her here just to torment her. We said we weren't going to push her and here you are demanding her to do and act however you like!"

"You haven't seen what she's truly capable of," I growl, sitting up and grabbing a towel to wipe the sweat from my neck and chest. "We've spent too long thinking with our dicks and not enough time has been spent checking whether she's even trustworthy."

"What the hell happened that night?"

"I was watching Ivy walk home," I start, my mind wandering back to a few weeks ago. "A man came out in front of her and dragged her into an alley, holding a knife to her throat."

"Why didn't you stop him?" Owen demands, his fists clenching. "We both know you could've gotten to her before he even laid a hand on her."

"I was distracted," I lie, not wanting to admit that I hadn't fully accepted her position as my mate.

"By the time I made it over to her, he was on the floor screaming in pain. And she just stood over him, with this faraway look of her face."

"So?"

"She was using magic."

"How can you be sure?"

"I could feel it. Her scent changed. The energy surrounding her felt different. Powerful."

"So you think she's lying" Owen scoffs, rolling his eyes.

"She acted like she wasn't aware of what happened. But I saw it. She's hiding whatever is inside her."

"Then she's not completely human. Problem solved. She can stay."

I stand, making me way closer to him.

"You keep insisting that she stays yet she knows nothing of life here, barely understands her own identity and hasn't grown up learning what would be expected of her as our wife."

"I don't expect anything other than for her to love us." He yells, getting in my face. "I don't give a shit that she doesn't know our customs. We can tell her over time and she can decide what she does and doesn't want to do. And as for trustworthiness, did you forget that you took her? She didn't come here willingly. And now suddenly you're putting all this pressure on her. How do you think she's going to react? Do you really think forcing your beliefs on her will make her want to stay? Or was this some game to you, where you keep her until you get bored?"

I narrow my eyes, throw the towel down and stand up, pushing him out of my face. "You may not care, but our subjects will. They expect us to have a strong mate to protect them as fiercely as we do. I just don't want to deal with a rebellion when they realise our mate is just a human."

Owen takes a step back, recoiling as if I hit him. "Just a human? Are you sure that's not just your own insecurities? Everyone will love Ivy. If you don't love her the way she is then maybe you don't deserve her."
