As the cold winter wind howls through the empty streets, Ruri and Lanbaoshi huddle together for warmth in their humble home. They have managed to evade Naomi's relentless pursuit for a week now, but the tension in the air is palpable. Ruri can't shake the feeling that their luck won't last forever. She tries to focus on the small moments of happiness they manage to find, like the way Lanbaoshi's face lights up when she cooks her favorite meal. But the memories of their past lives, and the dark secrets that Ruri carries with her, continue to haunt them.
One night, as they lie in bed, Lanbaoshi finally musters the courage to broach the subject that's been weighing on her mind. "Ruri," she begins hesitantly, "what was it like? Before we met?"
Ruri sighs, staring up at the ceiling as if the answers might be written there. "It was... complicated," she says finally. "My magic came with a price. I was feared, hated, used. I didn't have many friends, let alone someone I could trust." She pauses, taking Lanbaoshi's hand in hers. "But then you came along, and everything changed. You showed me that there was more to life than just surviving. That there was someone who cared about me, who saw the real me."
Lanbaoshi leans in, pressing a gentle kiss to Ruri's knuckles. "I'm so glad I found you," she whispers. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
Their moment of peace is shattered by a sudden crash outside. They both spring to their feet, weapons drawn, as they hear Naomi's distinctive laughter echoing through the streets. "It seems she's found us again," Lanbaoshi says grimly, her voice trembling with fear and anger. "We have to fight her, Ruri. For our sake, and for everyone who's ever loved us."
Ruri nods, her jaw clenched tight. "I know," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "But we need to be careful. Her obsession with me has made her dangerous." As they hurry out into the street, they spot Naomi standing amidst the rubble of a building, her hands blazing with fire. The snow around her melts, turning the ground to mud as she advances on them.
Lanbaoshi grips her sword tightly, her knuckles white from the effort. "Ruri, I'm right here. We'll face this together." Ruri smiles reassuringly at her girlfriend before turning her attention back to Naomi. As the fire mage launches another attack, Ruri quickly erects a wall of ice, blocking the flames and forcing Naomi to retreat.
"Let's go," Ruri says, "before she returns." She and Lanbaoshi begin to circle around Naomi, trying to keep her off-balance and on the defensive. The snow crunches beneath their feet as they move, the cold air burning in their lungs. Naomi's face contorts into a snarl, her fire magic growing more intense with each passing second.
As they continue to circle, Ruri spots an opening and lunges forward, aiming a powerful blast of ice at Naomi's legs. The ice strikes true, sending the fire mage tumbling to the ground. Before she can recover, Lanbaoshi launches herself at Naomi, sword raised high. With a savage cry, she brings the blade down upon Naomi's shoulder, forcing her to cry out in pain.
