In which in the time of Blaire's disappearance, Hydra gets a hold of her.
London, United Kingdom, 2014~
For some odd reason, despite being raised in the distant city of Brooklyn, London felt more like home than Brooklyn ever did. Perhaps it was because my accent blended in here rather than the drastic contrast of that of a person from Brooklyn.
But somewhere in the back of my mind, I knew that this place could never be my "home." Nowhere would ever feel like home again. I've been gone too long for any place now. And if there's one thing I learned from Hydra, it is that if you don't want to be caught, never stop moving.
And as that thought floated across my mind like a sailboat on an open lake, I couldn't help but feel as if I was being watched. However, when I checked my surroundings, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, which is what frightens me even further. I quickened my pace down the crowded sidewalks, and I heard Big Ben strike three o' clock. The ringing slightly hurt my ears, but I continued to meander through the endless river of people.
I reached an open alleyway, and I stopped to double check the area around me, when I suddenly felt a cold hand tightly grip onto my shoulder with no intent of letting go.
I swiftly snapped my head in the direction of where the hand came from, but instead of being met with a culprit, a needle was lodged into the side of my jugular.
As the gasp left my mouth, I began to fall to the ground below, when I felt the person catch me. The world began to spin, and the colors melted together until it formed a smudged black, which overtook the entirety of my vision.
Why was freedom such a hefty price to pay?
When I woke up from my unwanted nap, I wasn't exactly sure just how much time had passed or even where I was for that matter. Everything still felt fuzzy as I tried to recall the previous events. It hurt my head too much to think about at the moment.
I closed my eyes for a while and wished for the pain to subside, and while it did lessen, it didn't fully go away either. It didn't get better when I heard a voice begin to bark orders at someone. But what really made my skin crawl was because of what they were saying.
"Поторопитесь подготовить ее, я хочу, чтобы это было сделано как можно скорее!" (Hurry up and get her prepped, I want this done as soon as possible!)
My eyes immediately shot open, and I tried to pry myself from where I was, only for me to realize that every limb of mine was strapped down my restraints. Panic rushed through every vein in my body.
I forced myself to look up, and I hoped that when I did, it wouldn't be there. That I just fell and this was some sick nightmare. But when my gaze slowly followed the stringy wires up and down like a roller coaster track, my eyes landed on the machine. A machine that I feared more than Wanda Maximoff.
I violently jerked my head down, enough where they couldn't see me, and I let the tears silently fall down my face. I'd never let them have the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
Eventually, the tears ran dry like a drought, and all that was left was the inevitable predicament I knew I'd be facing sooner or later. A sick laughter fell from my lips as a hopeless question followed close behind. "Почему мне?" (Why me?)
Rushed footsteps approached me, and as much as I tried to ignore them, someone's hand gripped my jaw and forcefully made me look them in the eyes. Vicious green eyes studied my facial features, and I felt disgusting all of a sudden. Like some caged animal, which I guess wasn't too far off.
I tried to pry myself out of the man's grip, but his hand didn't budge. His sly smirk looked down at me tauntingly. I grit my teeth at the man before harshly saying, "Когда я выберусь из этой грязной клетки, я буду уверен, что буду последним, кого ты когда-либо увидишь." (When I get out of this filthy cage, I'll be sure that I'll be the last face you ever see.)
He mockingly laughed before pushing my head down to the metal table, making sure that it was bound to hurt later. He laughed again before he began to walk away. Before he left the room completely, I heard him say something in English. "No worries, Tyranny. We'll make sure that your compliance will be rewarded."
As he left the room, two other people dressed in long white overcoats entered the room. One of the two rushed over to a cabinet and took out a mouth guard. The moment my eyes saw it, I knew that it was already too late.
I tried to stop the tears from flooding my eyes, but it was difficult. God, I'm so sorry, Winter. I'd do just about anything to have him here - no! What on Earth am I thinking? He doesn't deserve this. If anything, maybe this is fitting for me.
As the mouth guard enters my mouth, I shake my head in desperation. But I knew that there was no saving me. There never was.
I heard the electricity begin to crackle with anticipation. The gears whirring brought back so many bad memories. And somewhere in my mind, I knew it wasn't real, but I could have sworn that standing lonesome in the corner was Winter watching me solemnly. A look of disappointment present on his cold features.
That hurt more than the electricity frying my nerves.
The metal plates clasped around my head, and everything began to get hazy. My brain felt like a blender. My memories became one jumbled mess of thoughts. And when I thought the pain couldn't get any worse, the worst arrived.
"Обнадеживающий." (Hopeful)
"Hачало." (Beginning)
"Лед." (Ice)
My head hurt so much that I think I would have rather died in that moment.
"Полдень." (Afternoon)
"Сорок пять." (Forty Five)
"Лояльный." (Loyal)
The man's voice continued, and I felt myself losing a grip on my own actions. My head lulled to the side unconsciously.
"Одиннадцать." (Eleven)
"Далеко." (Far Away)
"Девятнадцать." (Nineteen)
"Огонь." (Fire)
The room fell silent, the tension so thick you could cut it with a butter knife and serve it on toast.
"Тирания?" (Tyranny?) The man spoke questioningly, as she only looked forward towards him.
"Готов выполнить." (Ready to comply) Tyranny told him with a monotone expression on her face.
"Отличный. Ваша новейшая миссия: Верните Зимнего Солдата." (Excellent. Your newest mission: Get back the Winter Soldier.)
A/N: There's part one of this little one shot. I might update this later today or tomorrow. Anyway, love you all, stay safe, and enjoy. <3
