Chapter Seven:
Who's Nolan?

************************************

Courtesy of my beloved Goddess, Yuri. I already possess the knowledge and understanding of multiple styles of swordplay. Along with extensive knowledge of magic. And insane buffs on pretty much every skill. Unfortunately, none of that was helpful in the beginning. After all, plus 280% of 3 strength is only 8.4

After I reincarnated, I woke up in the back alley of a medieval city. In the body of a small, frail boy. It was not much different from my own body in my past life. Only I got the feeling that this body wasn't in this state due to chemotherapy.

It would seem I've become a street orphan. It's been so long since I've felt the desire for food that it's almost nostalgic. My stomach grumbled as a young lady in her teens walked by. Our eyes locked Before I glanced at her half-eaten apple,. As I did, she dropped it, and this tiny body's instincts took over. As I leaped at it, her foot stomped down on it. She continued walking with her friends as they all began laughing. And making comments about a smell.

I'm ashamed to say I ate the smashed apple. As I choked it down, it tasted like the slurry of dirt mixed in with what I'd scraped up. I was left smiling, regardless of their intentions. I did get a small meal out of it. And I will eventually serve justice to those cruel girls.

As I finished up, I stood, taking in my surroundings. I am surrounded by small shacks that appear to function as a market. It wasn't long before I'd begun walking. Focused on my surroundings, it was obvious everyone who saw me was disgusted at the very sight of me.

My dazed walk was interrupted as a middle-aged man charged out of his shop at me. Angry, he yelled, "Hey brat, you still own me for that bread you stole, yet you dare show that ugly face here." It wasn't long before there was a mob of people with similar complaints. I tried my best to run away. But I fell face-first on the rocky dirt road.

Now apprehended by the mob, I was dragged by my hair. Until we reached a larger cathedral. It was at this stage. Guards intervened, and after some persuasion, I was placed in chains. Then they dragged me away.

Into a place I'd imagine to be a sort of jail. Though I seemed to be the only one here... I watched the light filtering in from the small gaps in the wall slowly fade. As I began to nod off, I heard the sound of wooden-sole shoes clicking on the stone floor caught my attention. As I stared down the hall, I looked for the source of the noise. A lady appeared wearing a habit.

Her face was contorted and visibly angry. She asked, "Nolan, is what they say true?" I was so confused and overwhelmed that I didn't give a proper response. She continued her yelling fit. Until I muttered, "What does it matter?" The bowl she had been holding dropped from her hands. The chunks of vegetables scattered the floor of my cell.

As the smell hit my nose, I knew I'd be eating it off the floor. On the mostly clean stone, it was a much better experience than the apple earlier. As I began eating, the door opened, and she began trying to restrain me to stop me. Her voice is now pleading, "I'll bring you more; just don't eat off the floor." Please, she cried. In my determination, I bite her arm. She screamed before letting go. By the time I'd finished collecting the chunks, my belly was full.

It was at this point that I realized what I'd done. She stood with the door to the cell locked once again, covering the bite with her hand. She held the same disgusted look as the mob in the market. Before disappearing down the hall. With my belly full of warm food, I fell fast asleep.

After that, she never returned to my sight. Nolan? I said out loud she called me Nolan... Does that mean she knew this boy before? No, I'm not going down that line of thought. In the following days, I was brought 2 meals, one when the sunlight started. And once, right after, it sets. It took nearly a week to be able to control this body in the presence of food.

The first morning, they tried their best to get me to calmly eat using the bowl and spoon. Alas, my body wanted to use its hands and was more concerned with getting the food past my teeth than where it was beforehand. Once I mastered the bowl and spoon,.

Men in armor, similar to the guards from the previous week, came to visit me. Only their armor was of a different color and carried a different symbol.

They ignored me as they conversed among themselves.

You're sure it's the next hero... the man asked in disbelief. "

Yes, sir, the nun lost all of her divine power after the incident. Only a hero can take away Yuri's gift of divinity," said the cloaked man.

"How old is it?" the man asked.

He's believed to be about 4 years old, though we know nothing of his origins, said the cloaked man.

"Fine," the man sighed. Get my new son cleaned up and in clothes appropriate for his new status.

The man that entered was in a similar yet cheaper set of armor. He picked me by my shirt. He carried me like that, dangling, until we got to the carriage, where he set me inside before closing the door, leaving me trapped inside all alone.

What followed was a very long ride. I fell asleep When I woke up, It was to the feeling of warm water. It shocked me so much that I sat there in a dazed confusion. while the lady worked on cleaning me. Once I was clean and dressed, I was reintroduced to the man and his family.

A voice spoke as I was led into the dining hall, "Entering is Nolan Von Alexus."

It wasn't long before I learned the man from earlier had adopted me; he's known as Marquess Alexus. His late wife left him with a single son, Aeric Aden Alexus. We ate in an awkward silence. Before I was sent to my room.

My room isn't exactly inviting but it has a solid bed, along with a proper desk and wardrobe while not a whole lot larger than the cell I was in before. At least this doesn't have a lock on the outside. I thought to myself before I closed my eyes to sleep.

I hope you enjoyed!
