Chapter Fourteen:
Children of the land

************************************

Why…. Why…. I muttered as the shadow of the massive creature moved towards us. When it emerged I was dumbfounded. The massive shadowy figure was actually a child the size of an 11 year old child. Though their skin and eyes matched that of Floras. Though it's impossible to say for certain if it's a boy or girl, maybe a pretty boy?

With a shy awkward smile the child spoke in broken speech. “Not welcome Forest decided you die”

The glare it's giving us. Makes it clear it intends to kill us. Nicole and Aeric both tried to calm the creature. As They began to speak it charged.

As my gut twisted in fear of Nicole getting hurt. I spoke a spell out loud, not fully conscious of what I was doing.

“Oh shadows that lingerie I call upon you to extinguish my foes' will to persist,” I said… instantly regretting it.

The shadows from the forest leaped out at it like a black Fogg. Seeping within its skin the screams it made as it sank below the soil swallowed whole... Well, I can't get the sound or the image out of my head.

I used a forbidden spell left in the hero's journal. It's practically the only offensive spell I'd committed to memory. That was because the spell and its description were so beyond ordinary.

Most magic relies on circles with inscriptions; a vocally casted spell is rare. Partly because they require an aptitude for that particular magic shadow and light are two sides of the same coin just like fire and ice or earth and plants well and more rarely life and death… there are more but you get the point.

It was a while before I realized I had begun sobbing. While I wasn't exactly upset about killing it. The way I'd done it felt extremely cruel. To the point, it made me sick. I threw up completely overwhelmed by the whole experience.

I didn't even realize Nicole was hugging me at first. I felt completely numb after the initial shock.

Flora roared in pain as she woke up. Distracting me from what had occurred while she was asleep.

In a weak voice, she spoke as she stood. “This is the garden of The fairies be on guard; they are not friendly to others.”

Nolan muttered, “Was that thing a fairy”

Flora turned to eye us, “If you'd met a fairy you'd all be dead already”

Ariec described the thing we'd met while being vague as to how we killed it.

Flora seemed displeased at the fact we'd killed it. “Well I guess one Fairy isn't gonna cause any significant damage to the forest," she sighed.

In a controlled and level tone Flora said, “Moving forward I'll deal with any fairy we come across. We are not far from a realm gate. I need to return the four of you to your rightful places quickly. Stay close to me and prepare yourself we have a long walk before it gets dark”

It was scary, quiet, and calm in the forest. Flora's power seems to also work as a glorified trailmaker. The trees and undergrowth moved out of her way as she walked.

She didn't seem to want to answer any questions. Her response to any question was you'll learn that in time or that doesn't concern you.

It was infuriating… It didn't help that Areic and Nolan. Both kept trying to talk with me, while also fighting amidst themselves.

They're bickering went along the lines of. “She's mine, no she gonna be mine…”

“I am my own person and belong to no one,” I growled.

They both landed on this question. “Which one of us do you like better?”

Logic told me to ignore them but after some persistence, I snapped.

“I hate both of you,” I yelled. You're both ugly smug entitled jerks.

The rest of the hike they remained quiet while resembling sad puppies.

Nicole kept looking back at them before spinning back around and giggling. “ I think you broke them, Cleo," she'd say. Before continuing to giggle.

The hike came to an end as we approached what looked like Stonehenge in my previous world. Only it was a complete circle and all the stones had writing on it that was glowing.

Once in the circle, it became clear this Realm well was a portal to other “Realms” The 12  stone rings showed a different landscape between each of them.

Flora pointed With her nose at the one we were to walk through.  She didn't follow us

Beyond the stones, I recognize the plants almost immediately. But most of it was common in all parts of our lands.

Areic was the one who found the shadow mushrooms that are only found in Genorto Forest. So we're in one of the most deadly forests known to man… And the green lizard that calls herself the protector of man just dumped small children in said forest all alone.

Why are all the powerful figures in the world so screwed up… oh wait I forgot Yuri is a genie who's morally handicapped.

“Welp, that's the northern star,” Nolan said, pointing up into the sky.

We begin stupidly stumbling through the forest in the dim moonlight. None of us seemed to want to lead or be the one in the back. So we ended up huddled together. In a ridiculous formation that made it hard to walk.

I'd decided I'd shove Nolan or Ariec towards any monsters we came across. When I saw the fire lights I assumed they were fire serpents.

It was sorta embarrassing when it turned out to be a group of adult adventures… but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

I Hope You Enjoyed
