The entire castle was feeling the Halloween spirit by Thursday. It might have been the fact that the castle seemed spooky all year round, or the fact that Halloween would be on a Saturday this year, Maggie didn't mind though, as a matter of fact, she loved Halloween. It was one of her favorite holidays, besides her birthday of course. She had spent the entirety of the last couple of weeks trying to come up with the perfect costume, putting extreme thought into it, and now answering anyone's questions about what her costume would be, especially Remus' who had not stopped pestering her about it since he found out from James that she always made her own costumes by hand.
Speaking of James, they have loved doing matching costumes since they were babies. It was petty common for twins to be put in the same outfits constantly, and while the twins did constantly hate being overly compared, and made it their mission to tell everyone they met that just because they shared a womb did not mean they were the same person, they still enjoyed wearing matching outfits once or twice a year. However, something was different this year, and Maggie began picking up on it when James mentioned wanting to do his own thing for Halloween this year.
It made Maggie a bit upset hearing him say this but she really didn't want to make it a big deal and pretended to not care as much as she really did. Later that night she did end up talking Achilles' ear off about it though, even though she clearly explained over and over again that she so obviously did not care. The Ravenclaw did little to add input into the situation, too caught up on the book he was currently reading and mindlessly agreeing with whatever his friend said.
"I just don't understand why all of a sudden he wants to do his own thing! Like yeah, I like us being different and everything but it's still nice to do something together every once in a while. You know what I mean? Well, I guess you don't you're not a twin, or even have siblings I guess.."
Maggie rambled pacing around the Ravenclaw common room which was empty at the moment.
"Uh huh.." Responded the blonde boy from his position on the sofa, his book in his hand and eyes still glued to the page.
"I guess we have kind of grown apart recently but I guess this was just something that still felt like how it used to be when it was just us.. You know...? Achilles? Are you even listening to me?"
She finally stopped pacing around and noticed he was too caught up in whatever fictional world he was currently part of.
"Of course, you aren't.."
Maggie turned around picking up her bag from the floor next to the one-person sofa she had previously been occupying and giving Achilles a small slap on the head with her hand to snap him out of his reading.
"Ow! What was that for?"
He finally acknowledged her.
"That was for ignoring my very important rant about my family life at the moment"
She snarkily smiled at him while collecting her last few things.
"I'll leave you alone now though, I've talked your ear off enough for today. Besides, I agreed to do some prep work with Remus for potions tomorrow"
As she finally threw her bag over her shoulder walking behind the couch the boy was sitting in she ruffled his hair before pressing a small kiss on his temple. Their friendship was a lot of these kinds of interactions, it led to a lot of people believing they were together which was not the case but she understood why it seemed that way to outsiders, but they both knew they were purely platonic with a capital p.
