.・゜゜・─── ⋆⋅☾⋅⋆ ──・゜゜・.September 1, 1971
The sound of rushing parents and excited children was all that could be heard on September 1st, 1971. Platform 9 ¾ was full of families saying goodbye to each other as the young witches and wizards prepared for another year at Hogwarts. Or for some, their first year at Hogwarts.
James and Margaret Potter excitedly ran through the heaps of families and children, excited to find a compartment on the Hogwarts Express.
They had said goodbye to their parents, and no tears were shed on their part as they were more excited about what was to come and knew they would see their parents for Christmas. The same couldn't be said about Euphemia who had been crying about her babies growing up since last week. But once they managed to slip from her tight embrace James and Maggie rushed off in a fit of giggles.
As James walked down the narrow corridor of the train, he peaked throughout many compartments trying to find an empty one, meanwhile Margaret followed behind him, a rather large, fluffy, orange cat bundled up in her arms.
"All of these compartments are already full! I told mom to let go, now we're not going to be able to find a good place to sit." James whined.
"Stop fussing James, you're such a baby"
Maggie huffed before walking in front of James and continuing to the back of the train.
As she reached the last few compartments she finally found a compartment with only one lonely boy sitting in it. He looked quite peculiar, even as he was sitting you could tell he was very tall. Maggie would have confused him for at least a fourth year if it weren't for his empty robes, bare with any house colors. He had dark brown hair covering most of his face and he looked quite thin and lanky. His left arm leaned against the window, his head resting on his hand and his other held a small book she could not read the title of. She snapped out of her trance as she heard James' loud self finally catch up to her, still complaining and mumbling under his breath about not finding a compartment.
"This one should be fine, we need to make friends anyway.."
Maggie quickly slid the compartment door open and the boys eyes snapped up at her, alerted by the sound of the door.
"Is it alright if we sit here? All the other compartments are full and my brother and I don't want to get separated. "
She flashed a warm smile a him as she finally noticed the scars that littered his face. The most noticeable one, a rather large one that went down his left eyebrow down to his right cheek is what she was drawn to first, but many other smaller scars littered his forehead and cheeks, spreading down to his neck. She was curious, but new better than to ask. Her smile remained, awaiting an answer from him, not wanting to make him uncomfortable by just barging in.
"Oh- Um- Y-Yeah, go ahead"
He quickly sat up a bit and folded the page on his book before putting it down beside to him.
"Thanks! C'mon James!"
Margaret walked into the compartment sitting down directly across from the boy, James sitting right next to her.
"I'm Margaret. This is James, he's my brother."
She motioned to him.
"I can introduce myself quite fine, thank you."
James sassed back, making Margaret roll her eyes at him.
"And this is Astro!"
She picked up her cat showing him off to her new friend.
The brunette boy smiled at the twins before looking at Astro and gently petting her head.
"Hello Astro. I'm Remus."
He responded to the cat still petting her, but clearly introducing himself to the two siblings as well.
"Remus. What a lovely name."
Maggie replied smiling at him.
"So Remus.. What's with the scars they're pretty aweso- OW!"
Margaret elbowed James in the ribs, trying to remind him how inappropriate asking a question like that was. He doubled over holding his stomach.
"You didn't have to hit me! I understand words just fine!"
He replied, and Remus let out a small laugh, partially because of the girls reaction to her brother, seeming like she had done this many, many times before. And partially because he was glad he no longer had to answer, realizing that he didn't have a smart excuse for his scars yet. He'd have to think of one quickly because unfortunately, Margaret wouldn't always be there to stop people from asking questions.
Or maybe she will.
