Knockturn Alley

Hermione could hardly wait for Severus' classes to be over. He had paid her a short visit early in the morning, brought her some food and handed back the Invisibility Cloak. And then he rushed back to his classes. Hermione spent her morning reading. In fact she had taken up one of his dark magic books and read all she could find about Legilimency. Around lunchtime she had eaten breakfast's leftovers, and had searched the books for any info on Horcruxes. There was not really much she could find, even the Dark Arts books barely mentioned it. Hermione wondered just how Tom Riddle, later to be known as Lord Voldemort, had come across the idea to split his soul into so many pieces.

Thinking about this, a shiver went down her spine. Hermione got up and put the last book she had picked up back on the shelf. In that moment the door opened and Severus stepped inside. He put his school bag on the table, and he took out two packages and put them down beside his bag.

Curiously he looked at Hermione. "So what have you been doing while I had to deal with Black and Potter?"

Hermione lifted an eyebrow in the same way that Severus usually did.

"I offered to come along under the cloak. I could have come up with quite some ideas to annoy Black."

"I find it astonishing how much joy you find in annoying Black, wouldn't you say? I mean he is after all one of yours, a Gryffindor. Shouldn't you be on his side?"

Hermione exhaled annoyed. "Just because he is in the same House as I am, does not mean I like the way he treats people! And even he admitted he was an idiot during his school years."

Severus looked at Hermione with surprise. "He did? At least he seemed to be a little understanding with time."

Hermione sighed, she had not planned to tell Severus, it just had slipped her mind.

She reminded herself to be more careful around Severus, she did not want to tell him too much, otherwise she would have no other choice than changing his memory. And actually it was not something she wanted to do, she felt that Severus liked being around her just as she liked being with him. He seemed really happy being with her. Und she had noticed he had barely mentioned Lily in the past few days.

Hermione picked up her bag from the table.

"Perhaps you should put the things in your bag, it might be a bit weird if you show up there with a small pearly bag."

Severus started to laugh and reached for Hermione's bag, put it on his shoulder and walked up and down in front of her, moving his hips elegantly with every step.

"Don't you think your bag looks good on me, dear?"

Hermione laughed, and tackled Severus' arm. She sighed, for a moment she had almost felt as if she was back with Harry. That kind of lightheartedness and joy they had always shared with each other, she missed it so much. Severus did not notice her melancholy while he packed the objects in his school bag.

Half an hour later Hermione and Severus walked through Diagon Alley. Severus made a turn into Knockturn Alley and walked down a narrow lane. When he stopped in front of a shop, he searched the emptiness beside him with his hand, finally finding Hermione under the cloak. He bowed towards her and said "It is better you will wait for me here. It is very narrow inside there and if you bump against something, they might find you."
