why regret something you once wanted?

8:33 pm
I was sitting in my office, going through the recruit's files. The mission was tomorrow morning, and I still didn't choose who I'm taking with me.
The training went well, but I still couldn't choose.I was going through my notes.
Zane and Gioni can handle the pressure, they're tough...but the others need to learn that too. So,Zane and Gioni are a no for this mission.
Victor...he is just way too quiet, also not suitable for this mission.
I guess that leaves me Aaron, and I'm not complaining,he is great. Now I just had to inform him.
I quickly wrote a note and printed it,and I made my way towards the training gym,I knew they were all training there. When I reached the gym door,I gently knocked and walked in.
To my surprise, only Aaron was inside.
"Hey Aaron,a training session alone Im guessing?"I smiled at him
"Well, you guessed it right,Colonel."He said while giving me the warmest smile."Well, glad to hear. So;let me get to the point.Tomorrow we have a mission and we are allowed to bring one of our recruits, and I picked you.Are you willing to come with me?"I said with a smile on my face, and he looked like a kid on a Christmas morning opening his presents.
"Of course i would like to go!It has always been my dream!"He said, and I swear he had the biggest smile on his face."Well, great then!We leave at 5 tomorrow,I recommend getting some sleep now."I said while handing him the papers."Just sign this and bring it to my office in the morning."
"Got it,colonel.See you in the morning then!"
"Good night, soldier."I said as I turned around and started walking towards my barrack.----------------------------
4:18 am
Im sitting in my office, and Im a nervous wrack. This is my first mission with König and with my recruit Aaron.I need to take him under my wing, and it is a lot of pressure for a 23 year old.Gosh, why did I choose this job?
It is kinda funny how im the colonel, but Aaron is older.I think he is like 25 or something? Not sure.
But suddenly,I hear knocking on my door."Come in."I say calmly while looking at my computer.
Aaron comes inside.
"Good morning,Colonel.I brought you the paper you told me to sign."
"Good morning to you too,I see you are already ready for the mission, great!"I say while taking the paper and checking everything.
"I guess excitement took over me."He said with a smile.
"Well, great then! You can go and do whatever you want until we leave, its still a little early."I told him as I placed the paper inside my folder.
"Great, see you later Colonel."And with that he left.Shortly after that I got a text message from Ghost. He told me to meet at 4:30 in front of his barrack because we do that before every mission.I guess it is our little tradition.
And at 4:25,I started making my way towards his barrack. When I reached it,he was already standing outside with a bunch of bags on the floor. He was trying to figure out which key locks his door.
"Morning lieutenant.Need help?"I asked as I reached him.
"Hey Jane...no,Ill figure this out myself..."But he was struggling.I took the keys from his hands and found the barrack key in 0.3 seconds.I counted."You're good."
"I know,right?"

time skip- 6:48am
We finally arrived at the mission location, and when I jumped put of the helicopter,I thought I was in a horror movie.
There was a giant forest with a creepy path in the middle. The tree trunks were dark, full of shadows.Even though it was early in the morning, the trees seemed to close in,choking out the light, and letting the fog to roam around like a breath. The smell of fresh rain was in the air.The chilly breeze.
Oddly familiar...
Suddenly,Price began speaking.
"Okay, this is more of a scouting mission, but still be aware of any danger, got it?"
"Yes sir."We all said in unison."We will put two snipers up in the forest, and two on the rooftop.König and Rin,you are going on the rooftop,Charly and Aaron, you are going in the forest."Great,I was hoping he would say that we will go to the roof because the forest really creeped me out. But,we gotta do what needs to be done...I guess.
"The others will search inside of the arena and some will be scouting outside of it.Everything clear?"He finished speaking.
"Yes sir!"We said in sync once again.Usually on these types of missions,I didnt even feel like a colonel,I felt like a rookie.Honestly,I wasnt complaining.
"Great, happy hunting."Price said. And with those words,we began walking to our marks.
Aaron and I started walking towards the forest. We needed to get to one of the highest points of it,so that we could watch the outside of the arena with our snipers, and maybe even take down a few enemies. You never know.
We were now closer to the location.
"Are you nervous,Aaron?"I said as i let out a loud breath,it was a long walk to up here.
"I mean,not really...are you okay though?"He asked me
"Yeah,yeah...just a little out of breath...ill be fine."I said, and soon enough we got a signal from Price."This is Bravo-06,how copy?"
"Bravo this is Emerald speaking"I said as I targeted my sniper towards the base.
"Get on your positions.Out"
"Roger that."It was great being back on the field,to hold my sniper once again. As we scouted the area,it all seemed fine.It just looked like an abandoned area, and I guess it was just a false alarm that it might be an enemies base.So now,we were headed back to the base.
Honestly,I expected some action,so I was disappointed. But,I had an amazing talk with Aaron on our way back to the helicopter.I found out that he also lost both his parents, and lots of more.
We were kind of similar.
And then when we were back on base,I still had a bunch of work to do...how great.
A great start to a great night.
