As Bonnie promised, the following day to the family dinner the both of us were walking through boutiques and shops, looking for clothes.
Walking down Birmingham's high street, many drunks stumbled around, women hurrying children to school, men sitting outside the local pubs and whistling at girls as they walked past. At every boutique we walked into, we instantly got dirty looks as neither of us was dressed to impress, both of us in simple grey shirts and ankle-length skirts.
We were halfway down the high street when we reached one of the larger department stores in Birmingham, although it wasn't as fancy as the boutiques it was affordable, which was fine by me. But it didn't seem to please Bonnie much, who instantly had a scowl pasted on her face as soon as we walked in. The first thing I noticed was staff wanted signs, which instantly caught Bonnie's eye. Was she planning on staying?
"Hm..." Bonnie inspected the help wanted sign, "Do you think I should go for this?" She asked pointing to the sign.
"You're only here for two weeks..." I murmured, begging she wouldn't be staying for longer.
"I know," Bonnie replied with a smirk on her face.
"C'mon!" I grabbed her by the arm, pulling her into the department store, like a mother dragging her child.
As we walked further into the department store, it was rather empty. Rails after rails of hardly any clothes and barely any staff, I could tell the shop was on the brink of shutting down. At the back of the shop, there were a few fur coats. As Bonnie and I rushed over to them, our faces fell instantly. There were only a dozen fur coats and each of them was either dirty, mangy, or an odd color. One fur coat that may have once been white, had begun to fade into an orange fade.
"No...No-!" Bonnie inspected one of the coats, "What...is this?!" She lifted a fur coat, that had black and white patches, "This place is falling apart... let's go!"
I shook my head, this was the only affordable clothing within Birmingham's city center.
"Fine...I will meet you in ten minutes." She looked around, "I'm going to a proper shop."
Rolling my eyes, Bonnie left. Instantly, I began walking around the shop, although many clothes were old and gathering dust, I felt obliged to find something, anything better than what Bonnie would buy out of her fancy boutiques.
I started rummaging through rails, pushing older clothes aside, and pulling out dresses to skirts. After ten long minutes of looking, I finally found something that had caught my eye. A slim, black silk dress, with a pleat split up the leg. This dress alongside one of Polly's pearl necklaces would look perfect. Folding the dress over my arm, I continued to look through the rails of clothing.
Underneath rails, were shoe and hat Boxes only gathering dust. Opening a pink and black box, A gorgeous black coche hat that fitted perfectly with my dress, wrapped in pink tissue paper lay perfectly untouched. Picking it up gently, I placed it on top of my long hair.
Wondering over to a mirror the hat made me almost look like a French movie star, and a smile appeared on my face. With this hat and that dress, I could steal any boy I wanted. I had status with this hat, it wasn't just a hat it was a symbol.
I had to get it. Looking at the price, it was in my price range. Rushing to the till I clenched the small amount of money I had. Placing my hat back into its box, I walked up to the cashier, with a grin across my face.
After paying, I had hardly any money left. I would have to find a job, and that was when I remembered that this store was hiring. Although it wasn't an ideal job, a job is a job. I examined the poster before leaving the department store, where Bonnie waited outside the door.
"Hurry..." She hissed, grabbing my arm and pulling me down the high street, " I got you a present-!" Pulling back her coat, she revealed two bottles of Chanel No.5.
"Oh my god...Bonnie!" I squealed, taking a bottle of perfume off her, "Thank you!" But that's when I realized, how could Bonnie afford this, she had no job and was only the daughter of a seamstress in London. "It's stolen...isn't it?"
"Freya..." Bonnie giggled opening up her handbag and showing it to me, "Look!"
A dress had been rolled up and placed into the bag. "Oh my god..." My face fell as I slammed her bag shut, "Don't show that about! You may get caught! Or go to prison! Or-!"
"Chill out!" Bonnie sighed, "Do you like my new coat?"
Pulling back her old fur coat, she revealed a long black trench coat that she was wearing underneath. "They didn't notice a thing!" She giggled.
This is how she could dress so luxurious all the time. Bonnie was a thief. A petty one at that. Yet a good thief.
"Bonnie." I sighed, rolling my eyes.

Once we got home, Bonnie changed into an old dress, before drowning herself in Chanel No.5.
"I'm going out," she smiled, "If you want to come with me, feel free to join."
"I think I'll pass." I have had enough of you for one day.
"Suit yourself." she giggled, putting her new coat on, and after a few minutes of choosing what shoes to wear she had left.
Looking at the perfume she had left, I picked it up and sniffed it, it smelled gorgeous, Spraying it lightly on my wrist, I took another sniff. It was intoxicating.
"Someone smells nice." Thomas Shelby walked into the living room, where I was kneeling in front of all the clothing Bonnie had acquired.
"Thanks." I smiled, bringing the perfume up to my nose again, "It's Bonnie's"
"Have you seen Bonnie?" Tommy asked, kneeling next to me on the floor as he rubbed his chin, " I owe her an apology."
"oh...well she just left now." I pointed to the door, "Only a few minutes ago, you may be able to catch up with her-"
"Thank you, Freya," Thomas got up and gave me a quick smile, "By the way.. Finn is upstairs..." He chuckled as if he knew something while putting his coat and hat on. As he opened the front door and looked back at me, who was still in the living room he smirked, "You two have fun."
Heat rose to my cheeks. How could a grown man be so immature?
