After leaving the house, I first wanted to go to Charlie's Yard to see the little pony again. In case I came into any accidents with horses again, I came prepared in an old dress of mine and a pair of boots sitting by the front door. God knows who they belonged to, But I was going to return them of course.
After the short walk to the yard, I headed over to the stable that the little pony was in last time, and sure enough, he was still there. Buried under the hay to stay warm from the warm winter. I tugged at the gate, but it was locked. Thomas must have unlocked it for me last time, but there was an opening to let air into the stable, big enough for a girl to climb through. I knew this was wrong, but I had done many things in the past that were wrong. So this was nothing new. Clambering over the small wall, I lost my balance, falling fast first into the stable. Good job I wore old clothes. Giggling and picking pieces of hay out of my hair, I looked over the pony.
"Hiya-" I spoke in a sweet baby tone, crawling over to it through the hay, reaching out my hand I placed it onto the muzzle of the pony, a smile spread across my face as the horse accepted my touch, leaning into my hand, "I'm Bonnie," I whispered.
Crawling next to the horse, I sat back on the hay. "I look a bit different from when I last saw you..." I was speaking to a horse, I had lost it.
"Oi-!" A thick unknown Birmingham accent shouted from outside the stable door, "There is someone in the stable."
Jumping to my feet, I began rushing to the back of the stable, hoping the darkness would hide me. Before the stable door opened, I threw hay over my legs, hoping that would camouflage me more.
"Get the keys!" The man shouted, "Quickly!"
Rustling came from the stable door, the man was muttering to someone else. The stable door opened, and an unknown man and Tommy stood by the entrance. Sunlight streamed in, making me visible to the two men.
"Bonnie??" Tommy sounded shocked as he entered the stable, shutting the door behind him, "Charlie, it's fine. She is a friend."
The other man muttered something under his breath while turning and walking away. "Are you drunk?" Tommy questioned, walking to the back of the stable so that he was next to me.
"No." I laughed, brushing the hay off my legs.
"Then what are you doing?" Tommy let out a huge sigh.
"I came to see the pony." I smiled, crawling away from Tommy and back to the pony. Running my fingers through the mane of the pony, I removed pieces of hay and dirt from its coat. I forgot Tommy was still behind me.
"And why were you buried under the hay?" Tommy chuckled, walking over to the pony and kneeling next to me.
"I was...Hiding from you...and the other guy" I awkwardly replied, paying all my attention to the pony. A hand brushed along my hair, Thomas was running his fingers through my hair, picking out pieces of hay. The side of his hand slightly brushed against my cheek, causing my face to instantly feel hot and clammy.
"Why would you want to be hiding from me?" He replied, still picking pieces of hay out of my hair, his hand still lightly brushing against my cheek.
"Oh yes, why would I want to hide from you?" I replied sarcastically, "You kicked a bucket of water all over me."
"Now...I wouldn't say a bucket." Tommy hushed, moving his hand away from my hair and placing it on the pony.
Rolling my eyes, I looked back over to the pony, who seemed a little bit overwhelmed by it all. "I want you to apologize," I whispered, looking away from the horse and facing Tommy.
"Bonnie..." he let out a long sigh, "I'm really-" His hand moved back to my hair, as he took out another lump of hay, "Really," His voice lowered to a hush, "Sorry." His hands moved up and down my hair, twisting my hair with his thumb and index finger. As I looked at what he was doing, he instantly stopped, realizing he got too carried away. "Do you like the pony?" Tommy asked, moving a bit further away from me and more towards the pony.
"Yeah," I brushed my hands down the pony fur, which was just starting to relax under the hay, "He is gorgeous, what's his name."
"Don't know, he was an add along with the stallion."His voice sounded disappointed, "And you can't train a Shetland pony to race...can you?"
"Maybe with a toddler," I chuckled, " Just gotta find a toddler first."
"Or make one," Tommy replied, moving his hand away from the pony and standing up.
"You...what-" Embarrassment flooded my body from head to toe.
"Don't worry," Tommy muttered, stretching his legs out.
Standing up next to him we were now level, my dress had gotten crinkled under the hay, but my hair no longer had hay in it, due to Tommy picking at it for the last five minutes. I brushed my hands down my new trench coat, hoping that nothing muddy or sticky was sticking to it. Buttoning it up, I looked back up to meet Tommy's gaze.
"Nice coat." Tommy's eyes darted to my waist, which had been pulled in tight in the middle by the coat waistband, "Shows your figure much nicer than that fur coat."
"Thanks," I laughed, looking down at myself, feeling self-conscious at the same time.
"If you want a new fur coat." His voice lowered to a hush, "I will get you a new fur coat... I'll get you a pony, anything to apologize,"
"Anything?" I left the stable as the sunlight hit my eyes.
"Anything..." He hushed, moving out of the stable too, locking the door behind me.
"So if I asked for a house?" I laughed.
"I would get you a house...a small house at that," A smirk appeared across his face.
"I want a lift to London...you have a car?"
"Of course, I have a car," He lit a cigarette, blowing smoke into my face, before handing it over to me.
As I took the cigarettes from his hands, the tips of our fingers brushed, "I want you to take me and Freya to London...next week, February 5th."
"Alright...." Tommy smirked, "Any special occasion...or?"
"I got invited...to a jazz club."
