The next morning, I wake up with a pounding headache. As I sit up, the memories of last night slowly come back to me. The party, the pool, the confrontation with Finn... it was a night full of drama. But despite the hangover, I can't help but smile. After all, we did what we set out to do - we crashed their party and showed them that we didn't need their approval to have a good time.
I walk downstairs, and my dad was already making breakfast.
"Morning, Dad," I say, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. He turns around, a smile on his face.
"Good morning, sweetheart. Looks like you had quite the night, too much candy?" he says. I laugh and sit down at the table. Ruby walks downstairs and sits at the table.
"Did you have fun trick or treating?" Dad asks her
"Yeah, it was fun!" Ruby answers enthusiastically. "I got lots of candy and my friend's mom even let us watch a scary movie!"
"That sounds like a great time," I respond, smiling at her. "Did you save some candy for me?"
She giggles and replies, "Maybe. If you're nice to me."
We all laugh and continue our breakfast, enjoying the peaceful morning after the eventful night.
The rest of the day goes by smoothly. I spend most of my time resting and recovering from last night's party.
The next day, I wake up feeling much better. But now I have to go back to school. I have to just pray that there are no rumors going around about anything that happened.
I get dressed and head out, trying to mentally prepare myself for whatever awaits me at school. As I walk into the building, I can feel the eyes on me. I decide to ignore them and head straight to my locker. As I grab my books, I can't shake off the feeling that something is about to happen. But I'm not about to let any drama ruin my day.
I go to English just like any other day and sit next to Slice. English goes by just fine, boring as usual. Then I have to go to chemistry.
I go and sit at the table. Finn almost gets there late like usual.
Finn slides into his seat just as the teacher starts the class. He doesn't look at me or say anything, but I can feel the tension between us. As the class goes on, both of us focused on the lecture and not acknowledging the other's presence.
He keeps tapping his pencil on the desk and clicking his pens.
"Could you stop that, please?" I ask, trying to keep my voice steady. Finn looks surprised for a second, then puts his pen down.
"Sorry," he mutters
The rest of the class passes in silence. Once the bell rings, I quickly pack up my things and leave without a word.
I walk into calculus and sit in my seat. Ana and Hazel walk in and sit across from me just like usual. The class starts and I can't help but steal glances at them, wondering if they're going to bring up the party. But to my surprise, they don't mention it. They carry on with their conversation as if nothing happened, and I can't help but feel a sense of relief. Maybe things will go back to normal after all.
Nothing of note happens in history, just like usual. Now I can finally go to lunch and have a break.
I grab my lunch and head over to my usual spot with Alice and Ellie, eager to see how they're holding up after the party. "Hey, guys," I greet them, "how's your day going so far?" They both smile at me, assuring me that they're doing just fine. A guy walks up to our table and starts talking to us.
"Hey, you're the girls from the Halloween party, right?" he asks
"Yeah, we are? why?" I say
"Just so you know there's kind of a rumor going around about you," He says
I raise an eyebrow, intrigued despite myself. "Oh really? What's the rumor?" I ask, trying to keep my voice casual.
"That whoever was in the black cat costume is like, a huge druggie," He says, then he walks away.
My heart drops as he walks away, leaving me with a sick feeling in my stomach. I exchange a glance with Alice and Ellie, the three of us equally shocked. "Well, that's certainly not something I expected," I mutter, trying to brush it off. But I can't help but worry about how it might affect me.
After lunch, I go to my locker to get my keys, and then I hear the speaking.
"Y/N Y/L/N, please come to the office"
My heart pounds in my chest as I close my locker. I take a deep breath and head towards the office, trying to prepare myself for whatever is waiting for me there.
When I walk into the office, the principal is waiting for me. He gives me a stern look and asks me to sit down. "We've heard some concerning rumors," he begins, "and we need to discuss them." His words fill me with dread.
I take a deep breath and prepare myself for what's about to come. "I understand," I respond, "and I'm willing to discuss any concerns you might have." I brace myself, prepared to face whatever rumors have been circulating about me.
I sit up straight, looking the principal in the eye. "I want to say that these are just rumors. I'm not involved in any illegal activities," I say
The principal nods, seeming to appreciate my directness. "I understand that, but it's important for us to address these rumors, especially when they involve potentially harmful behavior," he says. After a long discussion, he seems satisfied that I'm telling the truth and lets me go.
That took up my whole free period and now I get to go to art. I sit by Ellie.
"I heard them call you to the office. What happened?" she asks
"Yeah, they heard the rumor about me being a druggie," I reply, rolling my eyes. "I had to assure them it was just a ridiculous rumor." Ellie nods, and we continue with our art projects.
After art, I headed to gym class, the memories from the party still fresh in my mind. I could feel the eyes on me as I walked in. I tried to focus on the workout routine, pushing the negative thoughts to the back of my mind. Despite the awkward atmosphere and the lingering rumors, I managed to get through the class without any major incidents.
I walk in the door and say "Hi Dad"
"Hey, I got a call from someone today," he says
"Oh really, who?" I ask, trying to act casual, but my heart is pounding.
"From your principal," he responds, "Apparently there are some rumors going around about you." I sigh, feeling a wave of dread wash over me.
"I know, Dad," I say, feeling my cheeks flush. "I promise you, they're just rumors. Nothing more."
"But is there a reason people are saying that?" he asks
"Dad, I went to a party and had fun," I explain, hoping he understands. "I'm not doing drugs, I promise." He seems to accept my explanation
After a moment of silence, he nods, "Alright, I trust you. Just be careful, okay?" I promise him I will, and we move on
I go upstairs and I sit there doing nothing for a while, then my sister gets home. She knocks on my door.
"What do you want Ruby?" I say
"I heard some kids at school talking about you," she says, sounding worried. "They were saying mean things, Y/N." I sigh, knowing I have to explain the rumors to her too.
"Don't worry about it, Ruby," I reassure her. "It's just school drama."
"Really?" Ruby asks, her eyes wide. "So, you're not in any trouble?" I shake my head, giving her a reassuring smile.
"No, Ruby, I'm not in any trouble. Just trust that I will always make the right choices, okay?"
"Okay," She says, not sounding completely convinced. She leaves my room.
The past few days have been really crazy but at least I made it through.
