Your leg shakes anxiously as you drive down the highway. Thunder crackles as the sky continues to cry.

It's heavy like the feeling in your chest. It isn't supposed to be like this. You just graduated college yesterday and it was the happiest day of your life.

You worked hard to get your degree. It wasn't your main goal but damn if you didn't work your ass off.

You went out with your friends and partied hard. The night was full of laughter, love and pure happiness until someone just had to ruin it.

Someone who just wouldn't let you go

Someone who always wanted to stay in control and pulled you away from the festivities last night.

You're not sure how you got away this morning but you did. Now you're driving down 95, running away for the third time.

You shake your head not to cry. You can barely see out the windshield as it is. Your knuckles are turning red from your grip on the steering wheel and your back hurts from trying to keep an upright position.

"Fuck him," you mutter to yourself before the damn breaks. You turn your hazards on and pull off to the side.

Putting the car in park, you pull your knees to your chest.

"I'm okay. I'm okay"

You try not to wince in pain and lean your head back. Looking to your right, you see the condo you are oh so familiar with.

Memories of last year flood your senses and for the first time in a long time, a warm sensation fills your chest. His voice hums in your ear as you think of that sweet, sweet name

Mi Cielo

Pulling out your phone, you go to your settings and look at the number you were forced to block. Saving the contact again, you unblock it and hover over the call button.

Will he answer?

You press the button, before you lose your nerve, and listen as it rings. Nervousness bubbles in your throat and before you can hang up, he answers

"Am I dreaming?"

A calm washes over you that you've come to appreciate. You find yourself slightly smiling

"Not the response I was expecting"

"As if I wouldn't love hearing from you. Especially on days like today"

"Like today?"

"Thunderstorms. You used to always call me over for movies, cuddles, ice cream and you know.."

Your cheeks heat up

"Oh and what's that movie you'd beg me to watch every time...." I hear snapping in the background. "Too Wong Foo"

Your legs slowly move back to the floorboard. A little bit of pressure has been removed from your chest.

Him remembering something like this makes you giddy but also bleak. You two shouldn't have ended it

"Is that why you're calling? You want a throwback?"

"No. Actually I'm stuck on the highway"

"There's a tornado warning!"

"I know but I'm across from the condo you used to live in and I'm just hoping that maybe you were still there?"

The phone is silent but the sound of your heart is louder than the storm. That's until... rummaging is heard in the background and the jiggle of keys.
