CHANDRALEKHA POV

The havan began with chanting of sacred mantras. The aura transformed within a few moments, as if forces from the other realm began entering into the temple.

The old lady started adding strong smoke producing ingredients into the sacred fire. Unexpectedly her voice developed a power that wasn't present in it a few moments ago, when she was talking to us.

Raghav was trying to maintain calm at all costs, meanwhile I was getting triggered with the sudden change in the energy shift all around me.

"Dhaiya rakhe Maharani, yeh ghatna Jo hum sab ke samne pratyaksha hone ko hai wo apse hi sambandhit hai."

"Stay patient, Queen! The incident that is going to be revealed before us is related with you."

Her voice came out bold, sending chills down my spine. What is she about to reveal? Suddenly crack sounds erupted in the flames of havan kund, taking some form.

Within a few seconds, the shape became prominent enough for me to understand who she was. My eyes turned teary extempore gazing at that figure

"Maaa!"

I quavered, tears rolling down my eyes.

"I don't have much time, daughter."

She spoke in a feminine voice, her body surrounded with flames of fire. Raghav and I straightened up. He gazed at once before gawking at her.

"I was cursed before I descended on this Earth as a human. The Devil had cast a glance of me, and he was determined to claim me as his."

She asserted in an authoritative tone. Albeit my father had already told me about my mother's secret of being a nymph, this 'Devil' part was entirely new for me. Perhaps my father was also unaware of it.

"I was worried, and that is when my Gandharva father decided to send me to this planet as a human. I, being disguised as a human, began roaming on this planet, but the men here lusted over my body, that is when I met your father, who was then the prince of Devgarh."

She kept narrating. Raghav and I were listening to her words attentively.

"I thought that he would also try to win over my body, but he saw me as a human, and offered me his help. I learnt Ayurveda in his ashram, but the outsiders were still troubling me until I ended up marrying your father, eventually becoming the Queen of Devgarh. I am a manas (born with energy of thoughts) daughter of Goddess Lakshmi, who was gifted to my father, so she arrived at my marriage to bless where she warned me about the Devil's search."

Oh! So this is why I feel so drawn to Mata Lakshmi because she my mother's mother. The way she was informing about her ashram life seemed to be signalling somewhere.

"He was still waiting for me to return to my realm and to get saved from him, I had to sacrifice my motherhood, something that I didn't want at all."

I gaped at this piece of information. I just hope the Devil hasn't harmed my mother.

"Somehow I managed to convince the Divine mother, and she blessed me to have only daughters, but I could pamper only one of them, and no other offspring of mine should get my breast milk, otherwise the Devil would catch me."

She spoke in a broken trembling voice. How could this be possible? Is this the reason why ma went away leaving all of us right after Roop's birth.

"Under this promise, I gave birth to you, but soon after that I was pregnant again. Your father was extremely happy, but I wasn't because I knew I could not keep that child with me. A girl was born again, after one year of your birth, but I asked the midwives to tell a lie to my husband that the child didn't survive. Doing so, I gave away that daughter to one of my trusted attendees."
