MADISON
"Good morning, Mr. Rossi," I greeted Edward as I stepped into his office.
"Morning, Ms. Romano. Since it's your first day, I'll explain all your duties. Sit down," he said, his tone professional yet commanding. I nodded and took a seat, trying to focus on his words instead of how damn good he looked in that crisp white shirt.
I'd done a little research on him beforehand—turns out he's 32 and took over his father's business when he was just 21. In five years, he turned it into a massive success. He's the perfect package—beauty with brains.
"So, Ms. Romano," he began, handing me a sleek new phone. "This is your company phone. You'll get business calls on this. If anyone wants to book a meeting with me, they'll call you, and you'll schedule them in. I expect you to update me on my schedule daily. I'll share a Google Drive with you where you'll organize all these meetings."
I nodded, accepting the phone.
"When I ask for a file, I expect you to collaborate with the manager of that department to get it. I'll also share a document with all the managers' numbers." His voice was smooth but authoritative, and I listened intently, not wanting to miss a single detail.
Half an hour later, after he'd finished outlining my responsibilities, he told me to review all the files he'd sent over. I gathered my courage and spoke up. "Uh, Mr. Rossi?"
"Yes?" He looked at me with those mesmerizing green eyes, making me swallow nervously.
"I know it's my first day, but can I take a leave on Saturday?" I asked, trying not to sound like I was already slacking off.
God, I wish Mother had told me about her wedding sooner. This is so fucking awkward.
"First day and already asking for time off, huh?" He raised an amused eyebrow, and I immediately looked down.
"I—It's my mother's wedding. She wouldn't let me miss it, or I wouldn't even ask," I explained, sighing.
He shook his head, a small chuckle escaping him. "You're lucky. I wasn't planning on coming in tomorrow anyway, so I was going to give you the day off. But yes, you may attend your mother's wedding."
I sighed in relief. Seriously? He couldn't have mentioned that sooner? Made me nervous for no fucking reason, this stupid man.
"You may get back to work," he said, dismissing me.
He had this table set up on the other side of the room where I was expected to work. I sat down and started going through the files he sent over, trying to understand how he liked things organized.
After a while, I yawned and stretched my arms. Last night had been a nightmare, thanks to the whole Mother-and-Arthur situation. First, they drop the bomb that they're dating, then announce they're getting married in two fucking days, and to top it all off, they want me to move in with them. What the actual fuck?
And now I apparently have a step-brother too. Just great. I can only hope he's not some annoying teenager with constant mood swings. I can't deal with that shit.
I glanced over at Edward and noticed how intensely he was focused on his laptop. I couldn't help but watch his fingers as they flew across the keyboard. I could just imagine those fingers moving inside me at that speed, leaving me a moaning mess beneath him. I wonder if that's how his cock moves too—
What the fuck am I thinking? Sex with my boss? On the first day? I must be fucking crazy. And a creep. Oh my god, I need holy water.
"Madison," Edward fake-coughed, snapping me out of my dirty thoughts. I quickly straightened up and looked at him, my face heating up.
"I'll introduce you to the main staff so it's easier for you," he said, and I smiled, nodding. "That'd be great."
Finally, 5 p.m. rolled around, and I was waiting outside the building for my mother. She'd dropped me off this morning since I didn't have a car yet. My university in New York was only a 10-minute walk from my place, so I never saw the point in buying one. Plus, with New York traffic, walking was faster than driving most of the time.
"Mother," I greeted her as her car pulled up. I quickly slid into the passenger seat. I already had a driver's license, so I could drive if needed.
"How was your first day?" she asked as she reversed out of the parking spot.
"Good," I replied, staring out the window, still processing everything.
We decided to shop for her wedding jewelry first. She ended up buying two diamond necklaces with matching bracelets. Then, she insisted I get an emerald set—necklace, two rings, and two bracelets. It was beautiful, but I hesitated at the $2,000 price tag.
Next, we headed to Laura, a Canadian brand that had just opened its first U.S. location a month ago. The store wasn't too crowded since it was a weekday.
With a worker's help, we sifted through some dresses. I settled on three to try on. The first one was a light green dress that looked nice on the hanger but made me look like a grandma when I put it on. The second was a dark blue, off-shoulder number. It was decent but nothing special.
The last one, though—a light pink, sleeveless dress that wrapped around my neck, showing a lot of cleavage—was something else. It made my boobs look amazing. It was a bodycon dress, hugging my pear-shaped figure just right.
I've always had a good, narrow waist but big thighs and a generous ass. I used to think my proportions were weird, but I've learned to embrace it. Thanks to my genetics, I'm a D cup—got that from dear Mother.
Even at 52, she doesn't look a day over 35. She's got some fucking amazing genetics, and thank god some of that rubbed off on me. She's obsessed with staying thin, always on some diet or workout regimen. She cares a lot about her appearance and has drilled that into me too. The one thing I envy is her hourglass figure. I got stuck with a pear-shaped body, but it is what it is.
"Wow," Mother said as I walked out of the changing room in the third dress.
"I think I'll take this one," I said, glancing in the mirror one last time. She nodded in agreement.
