Edward
I groan as the sunlight hits my face. I open my eyes to see the most beautiful sight: Madison lying in my arms. I clutch her as if I'm drowning and she's my last line of defense. I gently move the strands of hair falling over her face, which only makes her look even more stunning.
The sunlight on her face makes her beauty even more radiant. She seems so at peace, so innocent, nestled against me. How can someone not fall for her? Her brown hair and brown eyes are breathtaking.
I feel her stir slightly in my grip, indicating she's about to wake up. I close my eyes, pretending to be asleep so I don't get caught staring at her like a creep. I hear her yawn and feel the warmth between us start to fade as she begins to pull away.
Why did she have to pull away? Should I pull her close again? What if she realizes I'm not asleep? What if she realizes I wasn't asleep when I cuddled her last night? I knew she wasn't able to sleep, so bringing her closer was the only solution I could think of.
I hear her mumble something about a ghost. Oh my god, did Martha play one of her pranks again? She pulled the same stunt last time when I let my cousin's daughter stay here for a month. She scared the poor girl to death.
I'll deal with Martha later.
Although, I should thank her, since I got a chance to sleep closer to Madison. A voice in my head scolds, "She's your step-sister, for god's sake." Another voice argues, "So what?"
I feel Madison shaking me slightly. I open my eyes, feigning waking up. "Yeah?" I ask, still holding her tight in my embrace, trying to keep her close.
"Let go; I need to get up," Madison says, her morning voice soft but firm. I resist the urge to kiss her, shaking my head. Reluctantly, I pull my arms back with a sigh. She smiles at me before heading back to her room.
Oh, that beautiful fucking smile.
I imagine her smiling at me with my hand resting on my chest, over my heart. She's so beautiful and dreamy. The way she smiles—she's a fucking angel, man.
MADISON
It was noon already, and I had no idea how I had overslept. I had slept so comfortably in Edward's embrace. The feeling was so comforting that I wished I could sleep like that every day. I woke up to find Edward still sleeping, looking so innocent—if it weren't for his sharp features, he would look like a baby.
I hated waking him up, especially when he looked so peaceful, but I had to. Anyway, I needed to freshen up and get ready.
"There's a letter for you, sweetheart," Martha said, handing me a letter. A letter for me? Who even knows I'm here on this trip? Maybe it's from a crazy paparazzi fan girl threatening me to stay away from Edward.
Before I could open it, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned to see Edward walking to the dining table, dressed in a suit. His usually messy hair was neatly gelled back, making him look very professional.
I was dressed for the club, but with a professional touch. My outfit consisted of a cropped white shirt with a low neckline, revealing a lot of cleavage, a black mini-skirt with tights, and white heels. I left my hair down and applied light makeup, aiming for a look that was simple yet professional.
"You look lovely," Edward complimented as he took a seat beside me at the table. I thanked him and continued with my breakfast. Martha had prepared oats, baked potatoes, and an omelette. As a vegetarian, I had some oats, fruits, and baked potatoes, along with a glass of cranberry juice. I have a thing for sour things.
"Let's review the files after breakfast; the meeting is at 5 PM before the club gets crowded, of course. Even though we'll have the VIP section," Edward said. I nodded, sipping my juice. "Do you mind grabbing my laptop from my bedroom after you finish?"
