Preservation Hall

CIA Academy of Espionage

March 3rd, 1140

I was in my worst class ever. Firearms 101.

In normal school, I had never gotten anything below an A. Especially in math which I have level 16 math skills.

But this isn't regular school, and well I suck with guns.

I'm way better at the self defense part of combat, than the part we're your on the offensive.

That's why I have Erica. She's amazing at it, while I just stay back and be the brains part of it.

"Ripley! Get your pathetic butt up here and show me why you've been on so many gosh darn missions!" Professor Lane screamed at me.

He threw a pistol at me. Luckily I was paying attention enough to catch it.

Unluckily enough, I have my entire class watching me. "Oh crap, this is gonna be embarrassing" I thought.

And I was right. It was very embarrassing. I missed wide of the target so badly, after two shots he told me to never touch a gun again.

Of course the whole class started to laugh at me, even one of my best friends Zoe.

"Geez Ben, Erica needs to help you wayyyy more" She laughed.

"It really isn't that funny" I replied frustrated.

She realized I was frustrated, and like a good friend she stopped laughing.

"It shouldn't be this hard to shoot a gun, like I've even seen first years shooting better than me" I said.

Suddenly I felt like someone was watching us. I turned away from the cheering of my fellow students when someone got a bullseye.

Erica appeared, stealthily like usual. "Hey Erica" I said, already lifting up my mood.

"Hey, we gotta go" Erica said.

"Go where??" I questioned.

She didn't responded. All she did was point towards the direction of the Nathan Hale Administration Building.

I followed her to the principal's office. I must have been obvious I was nervous because she grabbed my hand and squeezed it tight.

I looked at her with a slight smile, and she smiled back.

We got there and walked in to see one of my favorite people, Catherine Hale. And the grumpy old man Cyrus Hale.

"Catherine!" I said cheerfully.

"Hello dear!" She said giving me a hug then looked at me strangely.

"Oh my, you sure have grown Benjamin, even more handsome now!" She said looking at Erica grinning.

Erica stared at her icily, but her face was faint red. I grinned.

Then there was a strange man in a black suit. Somehow I failed to notice him when I walked in.

"Alright enough now sit down everyone" Cyrus said grumpily.

"What's this meeting for that it had to be in my office" The principal questioned.

"Thats classified, so I need you to get out" Cyrus said, expecting him to leave.

"This is my office! You cannot kick me out of my own office!" The idiot yelled angrily.

I tried covering my laugh, he looks like one of those cartoon characters, steam is about to come out of his head.

I looked at Erica, who looked like she was also trying to hold back her laugh.

Eventually though, Cyrus finally got him out. "Thats why he's the principal here" Cryus muttered.

"Now the meeting can finally start." Cyrus looked around at us, looking as serious as I've ever seen him.

He pulled out from his backpack a bunch of classifed "For Your Eyes Only" dossiers. He had one for each of us.

"Look through those while I explain this mission" He told us.

"Wow it's been awhile since I've seen one of these before" I thought.

I opened mine to see pictures of the New York Skyline, and a very certain building I know I've seen before, but I couldn't remember.

I looked at Catherine and Erica, who were both hiding all their information as best as possible.

They must have had more information than me, because the only thing in mine was those pictures.

Even the mysterious man was going through tons of information from his.

I sat way back on the couch while Cyrus explained.

"So as you can tell, you all are being selected to go on Operation Scorching Eagle. I'll be honest we don't know much, but what we do know is something is gonna happen in New York City, within the next month or so" Cryus informed us grimly.

"Who is gonna attack New York?" I questioned, worry filling my voice.

"That we don't know, that's what we gotta try and figure out, all we know is there's this new organization that is plotting something, and it's gonna happen in New York, but luckily we know of their whereabouts, a warehouse on the western parts of Long Island" Cryus said, surprising cheerfully.

The mysterious man just stared at his dossier still, not saying a word. Erica and I looked at each other, I could see the excitement in her eyes.

"When do we go?" She asked him.

"We leave at 0300 hours tonight, I will meet you all outside the academy with a van" He said strictly.

"Dismissed" He waved at me and Erica to leave the office, but not Catherine and the other man.

We started walking to the mess, realizing it was lunch time.

"Who was that man, he looked so mysterious, and he never even said a word?" I asked Erica.

"No idea, Grandpa has barely told me anything, especially not anything about him" Erica replied, looking frustrated.

I nodded, "Remember Ben, it's classified we keep it that way" Erica looked at me with a hard stare.

I gave her a thumbs up as we walked into the mess. Today was even worse than yesterday.

The food, well to be honest I have no idea what it is nor do I wanna find out.

"Ben where did you go during firearms??" Zoe looked at me questioning.

"My stomach hurt a lot, I really needed the bathroom" I lied, then looked towards Erica who stared at me like I was stupid.

Bad lie, I winced. "Sure" Zoe looked at us two suspiciously.

After lunchtime we had to go finish class for the day, but then I have to get ready for tonight.

Who knows what's gonna happen.
