Flashback.. 10 years ago

Lexa was 8 years old at this time and was in her room watching her tape from Nationals trying to see where she went wrong. The competition was a couple of days ago and she did the routine flawlessly. However, she still came in 2nd place. She remembers being so disappointed in herself even when everyone celebrated her. That wasn't good enough for her she needed to do better, be better. This was probably her 50th time watching it over.

"What did I do wrong?" Young Lexa whispered to herself becoming frustrated.

She kicked her little legs and had tears in her eyes when she remembered her father's look of disappointment. Her mother however was so happy and proud of her but she craved her father's approval. She remembers him saying, "You did great Lexa but remember. Second place is just the first place loser." Lexa remembers her mother getting angry at her dad and asking him why would he say that. Lexa's father responded with, "She has so much potential Becca 2nd place will not do she has to be the best!" Lexa then remembers walking behind her parents with her head down thinking about what she did wrong as they argued on the way to the car.

Lexa's father, Titus, was a nice man but her also strict. Titus saw greatness in Lexa and therefore always pushed her to be the best at anything she did. He spoke words of encouragement but at the same time broke her down. Her mother was the opposite of her father. Becca was sweet and laid back and always told Lexa to just have fun and do her best.

Lexa loved school and dance. Her dream was to get accepted into The Ark School of Dance. They started accepting students at the age of 11 but you must be talented and also smart because not only are they looking for gifted dancers but bright minds. She knew it would be a tough competition because dance parents all over the country wanted their children to attend this prestigious school. Lexa knew she had both and couldn't wait until she turned 11. Her father had told her he would apply a month before her 11th birthday and then she would have to audition and take a test. She was worried about the cost when she saw how much tuition cost but her father said nothing is too much for his baby girl.

It was now dinner time and Lexa made her way downstairs and saw her parents dancing together to their favorite song. Lexa smiled and watched them. Her mom looked up and saw Lexa watching them and waved for her to come join. That night her family danced, ate, and had fun.

Who knew that her family would receive devastating news a couple of weeks later?

Present Time...

It was a quiet Saturday evening as always. Her house was never loud. With Lexa being the only child and all. Lexa was in her room working on an essay for her English Language Arts class on Romanticism in England that wasn't due until next week. She always stayed ahead of her work. She was now an 18-year-old young woman and was a senior at The Ark School of Dance. Lexa was staying on campus this year even though her mom did not want her to but Lexa felt that she needed to spread her wings a little.

Lexa came home on the weekends she didn't have practice or competition which was rare these days especially with her being the star dancer at the school. Lexa remembered her audition like it was yesterday. She was so nervous but she walked on that stage with all of the confidence in the world and she danced her heart out. She knew her technique was impeccable. She knew she had a spot when all three of the judges who were determining who would get in stood up and applauded her at the end. Lexa remembered the proud smile her father gave her and the big hug.

Lexa heard a knock on the door and saw her mom come in.

"Wassup mom?" Lexa asked still writing her paper.
