Why is it so hard to sleep? Without you by his side the same nightmares plagued his mind, resulting with him watching the sunrise with a warm cup of tea, wondering what could be going through your head. How you felt without his arms wrapped tightly around you.

"I uh- wanted to apologize for the other night. One too many ye know.. and I guess I didn't realize.." Ghosts hand waved over his shoulder, dismissing whatever else could come out of his friends mouth.

He set his mug down, pulling a cigarette from his pack and lighting it. Soap took a forced breath, slowly advancing behind him. "I promised I'd help 'er get ready but I'll be with ye as soon as I'm done."

"Don't care." Ghost uttered while pulling the stick from between his lips. Soaps head shook, "Don't do that, you'll only make it worse." Soap mumbled, as the cloud of smoke

"How much worse could it get?" Ghost laughed an unamused chuckle, the red a orange hues slowly starting to illuminate the sky had him captivated. Not by the way they looked but from how he had memorized how those same colors stained your hair in the morning.

A small piece of paper plopped into his lap, clearing his thoughts as steps retreated behind him.

His name written so neatly on the corner had his heart racing, is this a letter he dreaded? The one where you'd surely ran away, unable to handle anything he threw at you. One where you had finally convinced everyone that it couldn't work and to find another way. The reason why soap had to get ready?

Holding the stick between his lips he freed his hands to shakily open the lined paper.

"Simon (not ghost),"

The start already had his lips curling and his chest tightening with uncertainty.

"It's been a journey hasn't it? I always said I wanted a life full of adventure, I guess I never realized I was chasing the wrong one."

His brows furrowed fingers shifting out of the way to read further, despite the ember quickly burning to ash.

"'I believe in stupid myths, I like to take precautions because for once I'm taking a path that I didn't choose, yet I feel as if I was always meant to take."

Growing irritated he threw the cigarette from his lips over the rail, quickly standing to lean against it as the note continued.

"You piss me off in every way possible, somehow though it makes me less miserable than I was before. Instead of nightmares plaguing my dreams I'm enveloped by a warmth I never knew I needed when I lay beside you. Im safe. I'm sorry this wasn't what you chose, and don't worry I've always seen how much you despise the circumstances. But for once I want to be selfish, I hope you meant it when you said you were lucky being tied to me."

A small grin pulled at his lips a flicker of hope flaring in his chest.

"Here's to a life stuck by the stubborn shadow I met in the corner, if you'll still have me that is.

Sincerely,
Your tea thief."

There was no certain way to tell how many times he re-read the scribbled letters along the page. Folding the paper, he neatly placed it into his pocket, afraid if he'd continue to hold it, it'd wear and tear between his fingers.

Fresh air filled Ghosts lungs, eyes fluttering shut to allow the rapidly rising suns rays to warm the exposed flesh of his face.

"For gods sake son! Take off the bloody mask and go get your ass ready!" The quickly passing by rough voice pulled ghosts attention to his captain joining the rustle of everyone quickly shifting through base.

With a new pep in his step he followed closely behind, shoulders parting the sea of Kortac and recruits alike. He welcomed the anxiety in his chest as every motion became blurred, his suit being shoved into his hand while Gaz hopped on one leg trying to change into more presentable trousers.

"The hell are you doing?" Ghost bit out, as Gaz stumbled into his back while he tried to fix his tie. Prices laugh echoed off the walls of the confined space of ghosts quarters, earning an irritated look in his direction.

"Y/n, didn't have a maid of honor. Soaps taking the place, so I'm taking his. Be grateful I'm not gonna cry like a damn baby like we've all betted he will." Gaz mumbled while tucking his shirt into his pants.

Silence filled the room until a delirious laughter erupted from everyone. Was this what happiness felt like? It was almost too good to be true. Taking a glance in the mirror Ghost pushed back his dirty blonde hair, uncertainly had become a friend to him.

Ever since you arrived, the feeling made a home in his head, one he'd keep hostage forever if that meant you'd stay as well.

The familiar figure of his captain crowded his back locking eyes onto Ghost as he placed a cigar between his lips. Holding it steady his fingers curled around ghosts collar, forcing it back into place before brushing the wrinkles from the suits shoulders.

"Do you know where you stand now son?"

The question bounced around Ghosts head, as if it was the question that would determine if he'd die or live.

Ghosts head tilted, hand running down the front of his chest until he was finding the tedious button to hold it together. Unbeknownst to him, his lips curled showing the exact pride he was feeling in that moment alone.

"Yeah yeah yer hot, we get it now get yer arse down to that alter before she has all of our damn heads!" Ghost head snapped around to Soap  outside the doorway, a laugh instantly bursting from his chest from seeing his friend in a short coral dress.

"Glad ye find it funny, y/n did not. Lass is making me change as if it didn't take me a fuckin' hour to get the zipper up." Soap laughed at himself joining his teammates.

A small bouquet of flowers hit the side of his head with a force that you knew whoever threw it had an arm. "Aye I'm goin'!" Soap snapped before sprinting out of sight past the door and down the hall.

Ghosts steps fumbled, desperate to get to the woman he knew had thrown the bundle of flowers, prices hand instantly going to his shoulder to hold him back.

"Soon enough. Just wait."
