"So," Remus said as the two sat across from each other at his desk. Two plates of food rested between them, as Sarai drummed her fingers impatiently. "Where to start?"Sarai frowned, "You could start by telling me why you didn't say anything about Black."
Remus raised a brow, "After you were already upset I didn't signed your form for Hogsmeade? It didn't seem like a good idea."
He had a point. That entire fight left Sarai angry and upset, and the subject was still a sore topic. "But if you had just told me that Black had a thing against my dad, I'd have understood!" Sarai protested, before asking, "Why does he hate him anyway? And why doesn't he just got after my dad instead. It's not like I know the guy."
Remus heaved a long sigh before running his fingers through his hair. "It's complicated, Sar. And as much as you deserve the full truth, I can't fully promise you, that you'll get the answers you're looking for." He lifted his saucer full of steaming tea. "You've been adamant on not knowing anything about your father since you were ten, it would do you more harm than good to know."
"Yeah," Sarai said while picking at a crumpet, "That was before I found out he let a psycho to try and kill me. Don't you think you should have at least warned me that Black was after me still? or Harry?"
"I don't know Harry. It wouldn't have been my place." Remus said simply
"Yes but you do know me!" Sarai exclaimed dropping her fist on the table, "I'm your daughter, or the closest thing to it. You should have told me!"
Remus who was getting visibly agitated by the conversation, took a deep breath before replying, "You're right." He agreed.
Which stopped Sarai in her tracks, "I am your father. Meaning it was my decision on whether or not I tell you anything. I already told you, you couldn't go to Hogsmeade, I already told you that there's a killer on the loose. No other information would have helped you take any more precautions." He emphasized each word very carefully.
"But Dad-"
"Sarai!" He said exasperatedly, "The questions that you want answered, are only going to do you more harm than good."
He paused to take a sip from his cup, "The reason why I didn't tell you about Si--Black, was because the only thing it's going to do, is cause you to be paranoid." He explained in a more calm manner. "What does it matter? He's going to be caught before we know it, and then, it'll be the end of the matter."
"What if he's not?"
"Pardon?" Remus asked,
"What. If. He's. Not. Caught?" Sarai emphasized each word this time. "What if they never catch him, I mean he escaped Azkaban for crying out loud!" She threw her hands in the air,
"Do I just have to live my entire life in fear, watching over my shoulder?" She asked, "Why can't we find my father and sick Black on him?"
"Your father disappeared twelve years ago, Sarai." Remus answered quietly, "Why do you think I took the teaching position here in the first place?"
Sarai glared at him defiantly, she was getting nowhere with the conversation. Questions raced in her mind, more so than when she first entered his office. And then suddenly, one question surprised her before she could stop it from falling out.
"I want to know who my father is."
Remus's eyes widened, as he dropped the tea cup from his hands, as Sarai also stopped, stunned by her own words.
