There are millions of ways for one to die

There are millions of ways for one to die. This malevolent thought has weighed in my mind from the moment I was given life.

Death is the easy way out. You can shove a handful of pills down your throat and destroy your insides. You could contract an illness that slowly deteriorates your health. You could drown yourself in a pool of water. More or less, these actions will bring about the same bittersweet result.

Nobody knows what truly happens when you die, everyone has their own beliefs on the subject. Some think you go on to the afterlife, and your actions when you were living determine whether you go off to a white peaceful sea of clouds with the ones you love, or a dark sea of fire where your darkest fears come true. I've always thought that belief was just fabricated to scare everyone into being a good people.

Some people believe you go on to lead a new life. How magnificent would that be? A fresh start, where you get a second chance at the mistakes you made before. That's all everyone wishes, honestly. A chance to do things over again. A chance to be reborn.

My personal belief is that when you die the world around you turns black and you're left with an eternal silence. Your eyes are permanently closed. As terrifying as the uncertainty is, a part of me, small as it is had always longed for that silence.
