TWO MONTHS LATER
"Eva, come down, dinner's ready," Isabella shouted, while all the other boys were already seated at the table, waiting for their youngest to join them.
In the past two months, the whole family had undergone significant changes in their routine and everything else.
Massimo and Isabella found themselves with a lot of free time as Alexander took charge of the Italian mafia completely.
"Lily remained unsuccessful in her pursuit to win over the big bad mafia don, and as a result, she found herself visiting the Morretti family more frequently. Eventually, more than half of the family members caught on to her numerous 'failed attempts'."
Austin succeeded in becoming a doctor and was now the official physician for both the mafia and the family. With Eva's help, he got a chance to visit The Lotus laboratory and gained extensive knowledge of medicine and poisons.
Callum officially became the second in command of the Italian mafia under his eldest brother and was the best candidate imaginable for that position.
Greyson changed the least, keeping mostly to himself and being always away from home, though he still attended family nights and enjoyed the time spent together.
Xavier was the cheerful one in the family, initiating prank wars, organizing movie nights, and keeping the family united through laughter and sorrow.
Xander no longer glared at Eva every time he saw her and was actively working on his anger issues.
Angelo was no longer the cute baby brother who needed protection. He now frequented the gym daily, had surpassed Eva in height, and ascended to the position of head of the French mafia, excelling as the perfect don any mafia could fear. However, once home, he reverted to being the little prince of the family.
As for Eva, since opening up to her family, she often went to Massimo for suggestions or if she had trouble handling issues, as he was more experienced. Massimo always helped her out with a sense of pride in his daughter.
She was now more honest about her whereabouts and plans with her family and was often seen spending time with Isabella in the kitchen.
"Coming!" Eva shouted as she ran down the stairs.
"Don't run down the stairs!"
"Don't run down the stairs!" both Massimo and Alexander shouted simultaneously.
"I'm not a kid," she said as she slowed down and made her way to the dining table.
**Evangeline's POV**
These two months have honestly been the best days I've had in the past year. I just hope this isn't the calm before the storm.
Right now, I'm on my way back home from the Lotus headquarters, having finished my last task, which was active under the name Max.
As I sped along the road, I noticed a few cars following me.
"Who are they now?" I muttered to myself, trying to shake them off.
After a series of twists, turns, and speeding, I finally managed to lose them.
I began to ponder who might want to attack me and why.
Were they trying to attack the French mafia boss? But Angelo is in charge now.
Were they targeting the new leader of The Lotus?
Were they after the Italian mafia princess?
Was it the Black Knight?
Was it the Germans? They've been suspiciously quiet since the last incident involving me (reference: Book 1, chapters 20-23).
Ugh, I can't pinpoint a single reason; I have so many enemies!
Why is life so hard?
Upon reaching the parking lot of my house, I saw Mom dragging Greyson and Xavier by their ears out of the hall.
"What happened?" I asked, and everyone looked at me.
"They thought it would be best to give the rooms a makeover and painted all the rooms. Mom is furious," Callum said.
"What did they paint?" I asked.
"Well, in Mom and Dad's bedroom, they wrote 'Eight children out, making more, the more the merrier,' which is why this is happening," Angelo said.
"Don't tell me they did something to our room too," I asked.
"They did," Mom said.
"What the heck?" I said, rushing to my room to see.
They had painted a bunny on Angelo's side of the room and had written 'I am the Ice Queen, don't mess with me or you'll be frozen' on my side.
"Ice queen?" I asked as I came back downstairs.
"Yes, ice queen. You know, the one with no emotions, like a damn robot," Xavier said, with Greyson nodding in agreement.
"I'm not a robot," I defended myself.
"Yes, you're not. But you were... when you first arrived. But now, your guard has come down. Now you prank, smile more, care more, joke around, and most importantly, you feel. You feel, which you didn't used to," Dad said, coming down the stairs.
"Love myself?" I asked.
"I don't think I can."
Not after Max.
Suddenly, Angelo pulled me into a hug.
And soon, it turned into a family hug.
Maybe this isn't so bad after all.
Maybe I can try.
Maybe I can be happy too.
