A New Frontier

Character: Ash Ketchum

Description of idea: Ash Ketchum was walking through the halls of the Lumiose City Airport, heading towards the loading gate for his flight back to Kanto. All the while, many thoughts were going through the young boy's head. He remembered how he said goodbye to Clemont and Bonnie just under a half-hour ago. The black-haired boy smiled as he recalled the many great battles with Clemont and how many times the blond-haired boy blew his mind away with his many extraordinary inventions, even if it usually did end up exploding in the blond-haired boy's face in the end. He also remembered all the times Bonnie smiled throughout her journey with him and the rest of his companions. Ash will never forget the joy in the little blond-haired girl's eyes when Clemont caught Dedenne and allowed her to take care of it for him or the friendship between Bonnie and the Zygarde Core, Squishy. Ash also remembered all the times Bonnie would ask girls to marry her brother Clemont; her actions and Clemont's response always made Ash chuckle, even though he did not understand the purpose or meaning behind Bonnie's actions.

Ash also thought about his other good friend, Serena, as he wondered how the honey-blond-haired girl's flight to Hoenn was going. Ash beamed as he recalled Serena's accomplishments during their journey through Kalos. He was happy that Serena had not only found her next step in her journey to be a top Pokémon Performer by becoming a Pokemon Coordinator but also that she appeared much more confident in herself and her own capabilities compared to when she began to travel with him about year ago. However, as Ash continued to reminisce about the honey-blond-haired girl, a specific moment popped into his head, a memory that happened a little over an hour ago. A memory of Serena running up the escalator after saying goodbye to him, Clemont, and Bonnie just a few seconds earlier and gently pressing her lips against his own for a few seconds.

Ash could remember the exact strange feelings that he experienced during those brief few seconds of lip contact, his eyes widening from shock, his cheeks feeling very warm, his heart rate all of a sudden spiking, and the odd mixture of both confusion and a bit of disappointment when Serena's lips disconnected from his as the escalator started taking her back to the first floor of the airport. Ash could not comprehend the reason for Serena's actions or why his body responded so peculiarly. He decided to talk to his mom about this moment between him and Serena when he got home.

However, the most pressing thought on Ash's mind was a question: What would he do next? He just completed his Kalos journey, and while he made it to the finals of the Kalos League, he did not quite make it to the finish line and become Kalos League Champion. Also, he saw so many spectacular and fascinating Pokémon during his adventures through Kalos, and while he caught some truly incredible Pokémon that Ash felt he had developed strong bonds with, the black-haired boy knew that he was still incredibly far from accomplishing his dream of  catching all Pokémon. Honestly, Ash, at the moment, felt stuck. He did not quite know what to do next. He did recall his mom telling him on the phone during the semifinal rounds of the Kalos League that she planned to take a vacation in a few weeks to some tropical island. Ash pondered about accompanying his mom and taking that time off to decide on the next step in his journey. However, Ash's thought process was interrupted by a news announcement from one of the TVs decorating the airport walkway.

"Sinnoh Battle Frontier finally open"

Ash stopped in his tracks as he looked at the television screen. He recalled that during his Sinnoh journey after his loss to Berry's father, Palmer, the man revealed that he was working on opening a new battle frontier in the Sinnoh region and hoped that he would someday see Ash as a challenger at his facility. Now, it seemed like Palmer's vision had finally become a reality as five new battle facilities, each located at a different city in the Sinnoh region, had opened their doors including a Battle Factory, Battle Castle, Battle Arcade,  Battle Hall, and finally, a Battle Tower owned by Palmer himself.

As Ash witnessed footage of challengers taking on the Frontier Brains of these new battle facilities, a fire of pure determination was lit within the black-haired boy. He recalled all the fantastic battles and adventures he had during his quest to conquer the Battle Frontier in Kanto a few years ago, and now a brand new Battle Frontier was out there waiting for him. Ash smiled and gripped his fist in determination as he had already decided what the next chapter in his journey to becoming a Pokémon Master would be after he spent a few days at Pallet Town: Conquering the Sinnoh Battle Frontier.
