Case Study

"Thanks for helping me study for my exam. You're a lifesaver (Y/N)." My friend tells me as she quickly packs up her bag. "Let's just hope I don't forget anything on my way to class now."

I shake my head slightly at her. She always crammed everything right before exams or quizzes. "You're welcome. You'll do well, don't stress." She hurries out of the library, her steps quickly fading as she exits the building.

I look around the library, my eyes landing on a window nearby. It's getting late, the sun has just begun to set. I begin to pack up my things, putting my books, notebooks, and laptop back into my bag. As I begin to walk towards the exit my eyes land on a face becoming more and more familiar as the days pass.

He has all kinds of folders and papers surrounding him. A table that can hold six people is completely occupied just by him and his things. From where I'm standing I can just barely hear the small murmurs coming from him as he focuses on all the papers and files that are scattered on the table.

A pen is in his hand as he writes something down at a steady pace. He looks busy and rather focused as well. I debate if it's worth going up to him. I don't want to bother him with how busy he seems to be. I readjust my backpack on my shoulders as I continue to debate on what to do.

L continues to write on a paper, not realizing that I am standing there for a few seconds. But just as I am about to leave he speaks up, "Are you going to just stand there or are you going to come over and sit?"

His eyes stay focused on his work as he says this. He really is observant even when extremely focused. I scan the table trying to figure out where is the best place to sit without getting in the way of all the files.

He glances up for a second, noticing where I was looking. "Don't worry about any of the things on the table." He pauses his writing and moves a few things around, clearing up a small space. "Just sit over here." He motions for me to come sit next to him.

I nod my head as I walk around the table, taking a seat next to him and placing my backpack on the floor. His eyes stay focused on the papers in front of him for a minute before he finally looks at me. "Were you about to leave before?" He questions, as he picks the pen back up and continues to write down on the paper.

"Yeah." I nod my head again. "I just finished helping my friend study before her exam." He turns to a new page in his notebook and starts to finish what he was writing as he listens to me.

"So even though you planned to leave you ended up deciding to come over and talk to me instead. Interesting..." He mutters. He glances over at me for a quick second before he continues writing.

A small smile forms on my lips. "Interesting? How so?" I ask, curious to see what he says. "Most people wouldn't have gone over to talk to me with how focused I was on my work. They would have just kept their distance and continued to do what they were doing." L pauses to take a sip of his coffee and readjusts his position in his seat.

"Honestly I was curious what class would assign you this much work. And we're friends so it's not like I was going to ignore you." I can see his mind working overtime to process the second half of what I just said, making me have to contain my laughter.

"Friends? Yes, I'd say we are." He nods his head with a small smile before continuing. "This isn't for one class though." He pauses for a moment. "It's for a project I was given relating to detective work." L continues to write and type things into the computer he has open on the table, his eyes roaming from screen to paper nonstop.

"Oh, are you an intern somewhere? That's so cool they're letting you assist with a case." I say excitedly. He shakes his head, "I'm not an intern.. I'm an actual detective." L pauses what he was doing for a moment and glances over at me with a small grin.
