Something glowed purple in the upcoming tunnel.
Liam was leading since he was part god and had spent the most time here compared to any of us. So I followed loosely beside him.
After the snake thing, everyone was shaken up. They watched their so-called leader almost die.
Because of a snake.
To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I needed to step up my game.
The fight brought out something in everyone. Will chatted casually while Nico nodded beside him, splattered in snake blood.
Leo and Melog were in the back, sharing a hushed conversation. I couldn't hear or see them in the dim light, but I felt it wasn't positive. And Harley.
The kid baffled me.
One minute, we weren't friends; the next, he walked happily between Liam and me.
Nowhere near his brother.
Too wrapped up in my thoughts, I ran straight into a solid gold back.
We'd stopped at a dead-end.
The walls had transformed from wooden and bright to dark gray stone. Something bright shone in my eyes, illuminating our silhouettes.
Finally, I noticed the source of the glow. The symbol was curved and glowing, fitting perfectly into the previous image of it I had in my mind.
The symbol of Bia.
It stared right back at me, heat radiating off of it. Liam let out a long sigh.
"This should be the exit."
I felt something spark inside my chest. This was it! We were almost out of here, but then we could finally start.
"The only problem is-"
And my heart dropped again. Thanks, Liam. (-_- )
"-I can't figure out how to activate it."
He did have a point. Last time, there was a doorknob, but this wall was completely smooth. I turned to the group.
"This is it, guys. Then we're out. Everyone, look around. We need a way to open it. But be careful."
That last line was meant for Leo. Hopefully, the look I was giving him said,
'Don't go pressing random buttons and stones.'
He grinned at me.
Here we were again, searching for an exit, a secret door, or a key—for about the sixth time today. This whole hero thing was much more exhausting and less exhilarating than I'd thought it would be.
Leo and Liam were arguing over the symbol again, Melog and Will were checking the floor, and Nico stared at the ceiling. What had captured my attention were these little flecks in the stone that, when connected, resembled the Big Dipper constellation.
To say I had taken a pen to the wall and connected the dots was a far-fetched suspicion without proof.
Other than the ballpoint pen in my hoodie pocket.
My face reddened at the idea that I was still wearing Leo's hoodie.
I hadn't had time to change, but it was either this or the neon-coloured shirt Chiron had probably packed me.
And I preferred not to look like a pylon at the moment.
Festus was on my shoulders, staring at the wall with me. Maybe I'd gotten attached to the little guy.
