For a zombie, Jules-Albert was an incredible driver.
The six of us piled into Jules-Alberts car with slight difficulty.
There were only four open seats, so we had to do a bit of improvising.
Will and Nico shared the front seat, though the seat belt looked like it was kinda cutting off Nico's air as it barely reached his shoulder. But the two looked content together.
(Y/n) had a seat to herself, either because everyone was still slightly spooked at the idea their friend was a goddess or because of her sleep-kicking.
Her head lulled against the car door, and I winced every time we hit a bump.
She had her hands tucked up beneath her head, well, sort of. The sleeves of my hoodie fell well over her hands.
Harley and I squished into the middle seat, my brother seated on my lap, but he didn't seem to mind. Festus was wrapped around his wrist in watch form, and he was fiddling with the nobs on the side.
Melog sat on the other side of us, the sunlight reflecting off of her skin and hair, giving the carriage a sort of blue glow. In her hand was a picture of herself with five other blue people.
"Are those your Step-siblings?"
Her head snapped up, and she smiled, "Yeah. You know I went on this quest glad to get a break from them, but I can't wait to get home."
I nodded.
I missed Nyssa and Jake, as well as the rest of Cabin Nine. Not to mention my friends.
It seemed ironic, the day (Y/n) showed up I had been set on leaving Camp, and now, here I was, counting the days until I could return.
"Are you going to tell Percy when we get back?" I asked.
The smile completely vanished from her face, "It's better if I don't tell him."
"But-"
"Drop it, Leo." She snapped, turning away.
Okay, touchy subject.
For the rest of the drive, we sat, listening to the radio and watching the scenery go by.
I hadn't really thought out how this arrangement would work, but the six of us fell asleep as the sky started to darken.
It was pretty easy to sleep knowing we'd be in New York by morning.
Thanks to the Godly dreamcatcher seated by my side, I slept peacefully without nightmares, that is, until Jules-Albert hit a bump.
I woke up with a start. Everyone else was still asleep.
As I sucked in a breath, (Y/n) turned away from the scenery, taking my hand.
"If I sit in this car any longer, my spine is going to cave in," She whined, breaking into a smile.
"I'm pretty sure that's not how that works."
I pecked her lips.
She snuggled over, leaning against me as we stared up at the night sky. The stars glinted like tiny diamonds and I watched (Y/n) basked in the moonlight.
Which definitely explained why her skin seemed to glow from the moonlace in the shrine.
Her head rested against my shoulder as I pulled her close.
Now's the time, I thought.
"Happy Birthday," I murmured in her ear, reaching into my pocket to produce a small bronze trinket.
