I finished The Death Cure.
It was actually not as bad as I was expecting it to be. In fact, I considered it a lot less depressing than TST. In that, I was scared for everyone's lives (I was in this, too, but not nearly as much), confused and upset (understatement of the century) about everything with Thomas and Teresa and always anticipating new 'Variables' WICKED would throw at them. What I liked was, in this book, they were in control most of the time. And they actually did something WICKED hadn't expected them to do (a first). In TMR and TST, the fact that WICKED always knew everything and could control them really creeped me out. That changed in this. And there weren't many deaths, really. The only important deaths were Newt and Teresa.
And, also, the ending gave me hope. It was as happy as anyone could hope for from James Dashner, I think.
My real problem with it was all the unanswered questions. I expected more. I know The Kiłł Order and The Fever Code (when it comes out) will answer most of them, or at least some of them, but there are some questions I think should have been answered in this book. For one, we still don't know how WICKED thought the Maze and the Scorch and the Variables and everyone's reactions to them and everything else would help find a cure. How would the killzone patterns help? What was the point of so much suffering on the Gladers and everyone else's parts when we don't know how it helps?
I might have missed something there, and if I have, someone please point it out and on which page it is.
And, as for the deaths, I already knew about both of them so it wasn't as bad as it could be but it was still really sad. Teresa sacrificed herself for Thomas...that's just...I...no...I don't...*mumbles incoherently while gazing into space*
The worst part is that they were so close before going into the Maze, and then their friendship was destroyed because of WICKED. Sure, Chancellor Paige helped them in the end, but Janson and everyone else...I hate them.
And Newt. Newt. Why did he have to die like that?
If he had to die, couldn't he at least have died with Minho and the other Gladers around him, NOT at Thomas's hands, and, I dare suggest, NOT spiralling on the brink of insanity, if he wasn't insane already?

Rant over now.
