"Okay, I'm done acting dumb, did you do Miss P?"

"Emma!" Adeline scolds with a flustered glare. "What kind of question is that?"

"I'm going to take that as a yes."

"No!" Adeline says but her cheeks were reddening and it gave her away.

"So you are together?" Emma asks, a smile spreading on her face.

"Oh shut up." The woman says, rolling her eyes and walking off to the library where she knew Alma was located. She seen the older woman busy with reorganizing the books, catching her gaze.

"Hello Miss Johnson, what do you need?" She asks, returning her gaze to the task at hand.

"Well Miss Peregrine, I was just looking for you." Adeline says with a small smile, walking over. Alma looked over at her when she stopped beside her, looking at all of the books and stopping at the one Alma had just placed on the shelf. The ymbryne continued putting the remaining books back, not paying much attention to how the younger woman kept stealing glances at her as she flipped through the book.

"Alma?"

"Yes?"

"Do you still want to help me figure out what this says?"

The older woman looked over confused until she seen the book she held.

Un guide de la particularité.

"A guide to the peculiardom." Alma says softly and suddenly her cheeks went faintly pink when she remembered what she wrote inside the cover.

"You told me you'd tell me and never did. I'm just curious as to why my name is written in it." Adeline says with a smile.

The younger woman handed it to her, Alma raising an eyebrow at her before opening the book and looking down at the words, refreshing her mind of what was written in French.

"Horace told me you can understand French?" Adeline asks quietly and Alma hums.

"When I was younger I was able to, I still can but it takes me a few seconds longer to decipher it." Alma says softly, narrowing her eyes at the paper.

"Do you know what it says?" Adeline asks, moving up behind her to look over her shoulder.

"After all these years of caring for my children, I decided it was time to write about my experience with them all." Alma blushed slightly when she skimmed over the next sentence. "Five years ago, an intriguing woman came along and since then I knew I had to start writing down all the wonderful memories I had with my wards. Thank you, Adeline, for letting me see how amazing it is to be a ymbryne. I hope to dedicate this to you one day."

"Alma LeFay Peregrine." Adeline finished and a smile pricked at her lips and a pink dusted over both their cheeks. "You should teach me French. Have any more little notes you'd like to share?" Adeline teases and Alma rolls her eyes with a playful glare.

"Wouldn't you like to know."

"I would, very much actually."

Alma looked over her, hummed and went to the bookshelf taking off two books and handing them to her. Adeline looked at her confused before down at the books in her arms, seeing the titles.

How to learn French: A beginners guide and French Phrases.

Adeline looked back up to her ymbryne and Alma threw her a small smirk.

"Have fun learning, lovely." She says in a hush tone, Adelines cheeks burning as the woman walked off after finishing her task leaving her alone with the books.

She flipped through both of them, sighing when she seen how long they were but took a seat on the small chair in the library. She was determined to at least learn something. Especially if Alma liked it.

"Adeline, I've been calling you for dinner. Where have you been?" Alma spotted her in the library and went to say her name when she stopped short. She seen her breathing was slow and quietly walked into the room, narrowing her eyes as she checked over her from afar. She was asleep.

Alma softened her gaze a bit as she walked over, looking over her peaceful features one last time before contemplating whether to wake her for dinner or not. She glanced down and seen one of the books still open that was sitting on her lap, smiling slightly when she seen it was one she handed her earlier.

Maybe she'd wake her later. She could always save her a plate for when she's up.

Alma carefully reached for the light blanket draped over the chair, Adeline moving slightly at the action making the ymbryne pause for a moment, but she didn't wake. She layed it across the woman, hoping she was comfortable enough, looking around to be sure none of the children were around, and placed a soft kiss against her lips before standing and quietly shutting the door.
