The Secrets in the Shadows

Chapter 6

Amberfeather's P.O.V

I awoke to the sound of cats bustling in camp. It was raining and I was surprised I wasn't up earlier. I stretched and walked out of the den. Everyone was trying to stay in the dryness of the camp but I didn't really mind the rain. I was assigned to go hunting by the Sky Tree my new least favorite spot since my friends dared me to try and climb the tree to the very top. I heard a voice in my head that warned me not to so I backed down. I didn't know who the cat was or why they warned me not to do it but they saved my life because Dewpaw had once tried climbing it to the very top but since his tail had gotten cut in a fox trap when he fell he couldn't balance and he fell to his death. He hunted in Starclan now. I started to walk over there when there was a snap of a branch or twig coming from the direction of the Sky Tree. I crouched down and stalked forward ready to attack. I scented the air but their wasn't even a scent from the intruder. It was a cat and that was for sure. I crept forward again and heard someone behind me too. I turned and scented a cat this time. It was Ragged.

"Great." I mumbled.

I stood up and saw him turn my direction and prance over to me. I flattened my ears in warning to him. He playful bounded up to me and he just sat in front of me like we had known each other since we were kits. "Hi Amberfeather, or should I call you Angel since you're the lost daughter of Raven?"

"Shut it I'm not his daughter and I never will take that as the truth he could't be my father." I growled.

"It is true Amberfeather. If you're worried about Ashflight don't be he's fine."

"Explain fine to you because fine to me is defending and hunting for my clan like a warrior does."

"Let me show you."

"I really should go back and hunt Ragged. I can't leave Thunderclan behind my clan mates are counting on me."

"Please I promise I will give you some of our prey before you leave and I'll even hunt some too." he said standing up walking around me. His tail rolled on the bottom of my chin making me growl in frustration and anger. "Fine. I'll go but I don't like you the way you like me so don't even think about it." He nodded and put his tail down. We walked in silence and I kept hearing noises in the bushes. 'Be prepared Amberfeather. You must be careful with these cats they are not the most dangerous but they are still blood-thirsty killers. Be careful love.' It was the same voice in my head that warned me not to climb the Sky Tree. I nodded making sure Ragged didn't see me nod to myself and said a thank you to Starclan.

"Here we are Amber."

"It isn't Amber it is Amberfeather. Now show me how your clan works."

"Fine if you want to be stubborn about it." At the front entrance there was fresh blood but Ragged didn't seem to notice. I scented the air around me. It smelled like blood everywhere. As we walked into the cave glowing yellow eyes peered out of the bushes. Lightning struck and they were gone. I shook my head to make sure I wasn't going crazy seeing and hearing things. He showed me where the hunters slept. I scented Lightningclaw's scent in the nest. Ashflight, Spottedwish, and Lightningclaw had decided to stay with them for awhile so if we went to war with them we would be prepared. As we walked through the halls of the cave system cats were whispering and that's when I spotted my brother Ashflight. I wanted to run up to him but he didn't even smile at me when he saw me. He flattened his ears as if he was warning me to stay away from him. He had a scar from his eye down to his shoulder now too. Battle-scarring must be something they do here since Ragged had one over his chest. I hoped Lightningclaw and Spottedwish were ok. We found a spot to talk but their was no way for me to run if this was a trap. As he talked about how his clan mates worked together I noticed Ashflight and Raven had disappeared. I flattened my ears when I saw him coming towards us. "Ragged we have to get out of here." I whispered
