You and Dogday continue to journey through Playhouse, taking care to ward off any smaller critters that get too close for comfort. During your travel, you tell him an abridged version of how you got to Playcare, the letter summoning you to Playtime Co and the various other toys you have met along the way, both hostile and friendly. You both gradually make it back to the open courtyard of Playcare and your phone, seemingly right on cue, starts ringing. You answer it, pretty certain who it is.
“Hey, are you alright? No ouchies or lost body parts?” Ollie, the enigmatic child, asks you this poorly timed question, given what happened previously, plus your current company...
A cruel twist of irony.
“Hey Ollie, I’m all good. I brought a friend back with me.”
“I’m really glad you’re ok. I don’t wanna lose anymore friends to this place…wait, what was that last part?”
“I brought a friend with me, Ollie. You wouldn’t happen to know somebody by the name of Dogday, would you?”
“Dogday? You found Dogday in Playhouse?”
“Sure did! Wanna say hi?”
Dogday leans over to speak to the phone. “Hey, Ollie, it’s nice to meet you.”
“It’s great to meet you too, I can’t believe you’re still alive! Poppy said-” You raise an eyebrow at this, but you don’t interrupt the kid. “W-well, we thought you were dead, no offence.”
“None taken. Y/N tells me you’ve got a plan to divert the red smoke?”
Ollie brings Dogday up to date with your main objective before he speaks to you again.
“Hey… did you see the shrine? Catnap made it for the Prototype.” You feel Dogday huff at this. “See, before Catnap turned into… Catnap, I guess there was some pretty serious accident. He almost died, but they say the Prototype saved his life, giving up his own freedom in the process. In Catnap’s eyes, the Prototype is a superhero, and has saved this place, so Catnap treats him like a god, killing everyone that opposes him. Us included, if we’re not careful.”
“Or he just rips your legs off instead,” You hear your furry companion mutter bitterly. It doesn’t seem like Ollie heard him though, because he continues.
“That shrine, did it scare you? If you thought that was terrifying, just wait until you see the real thing.”
“Uh…” Geez, he really knew how to hype you up, didn’t he?
“Anyways, we’re really close to the end. I sent you a new key, you’re going to the Counselor’s office instead. It’s not ideal… but it should have enough juice. If you can get that generator going, and plug it in, I think we’ll be done!
“And keep your eyes open for Catnap. Every shadow and every flickering light is a hiding spot. He always stalks his prey first, he’ll take away anything you have to defend yourself, and when you’re at your most vulnerable… he’ll kill you. Catnap lives for the hunt.” A shiver runs down your spine from Ollie’s chilling warning, but his bright voice returns. “Good luck, talk soon!”
“Thanks Ollie, bye…” The call cuts off and it’s just you and Dogday again.
“That kid sure knows his stuff,” He comments.
“Yep. And I haven’t even met him yet.”
“You haven’t?”
“Nope! They love to be mysterious around here, Poppy and Kissy aren’t so different.” He barks out a laugh at that, and you grin.
“That’s Poppy for you. She likes to be one step ahead of everyone else.”
“I guess that’s how you survive down here…” You trail off, your mind turning gears. “Dogday, she never mentioned you. And Ollie said- it sounded like he was about to say that she told him that you were dead.”
“Hmmm… I got that impression too, Angel. I don’t know why she would do that. Maybe we should ask her when we see her?”
“Sounds like a plan, buddy.” At least you would be getting some much needed answers around here. You keep that to yourself as the two of you follow Ollie's directions.
