Knowing that you and Dogday had spent a lot of time doing "things" other than working towards the main objective, you make an effort to high-tail it through the building.
With your mind preoccupied by the events of the last 24 hours, as well as the very real threat of Catnap or another toy ending your life at any given moment, you fall silent as you find the first few batteries in the rooms following the one you were just in. You only snap back to the present when the companion on your back taps your shoulder.
"Angel, are you ok? You've been quiet for the last few minutes."
"Oh, yeah, just thinking about stuff. I didn't mean to worry you, Puppy."
"May I ask what's on your mind?"
You can't help but smile at his question. What aren't you thinking about? You choose to focus on the positive first. "Well, I'm thinking about how we're officially together now, and that makes me very happy." This draws a quiet laugh from him. "Annnd I'm also thinking about the ever growing threat of death, too. Unfortunately."
"I can't blame ya, Angel. It's definitely not all sunshine and rainbows down here. Not anymore." He pauses. "Angel, I want you to know that I'll do what I can to protect you. I'll look out for you and I'll make sure Catnap stays away from you."
You cross an arm over your to pat his hand, turning to kiss his cheek briefly. "Thank you, Puppy, that means a lot. I'll do my absolute best to protect both of us too."
As you finish speaking, you arrive outside of a bordered-off room, the red smoke scattering the light into a crimson haze. You peek through the wooden planks and you're surprised to see a toy, a bunny one, in the middle of the smoke-filled office. It walks a few steps in a robotic fashion before falling forward onto its face. It doesn't get back up.
Not even a second later, a flash of a purple, skinny four-legged creature runs through the shambled room. You gasp, quickly clamping a hand over your mouth to silence yourself. It is by snuffing out your own sound that you realise there is another noise behind you, more specifically on your back. Dogday is growling, the tone deadly and completely shocking to you. This time, he isn't messing around.
"What the hell was that thing?" You whisper to him.
"That was Catnap. Angel, we need to leave. Now." He warns you in hushed words, his voice devoid of any warmth. "That psychopath is still here, I can sense it. We need to go."
"But, the generator-"
"We'll find another way, we have to go right now." His last words are sharp and you flinch. Realising this, he softens his voice. "Sorry. He'll kill us if the Prototype tells him to, Angel. It's too risky."
You play your options in your mind (not that you have many) before making the decision to follow his advice. "...Ok, ok." You whisper back to him, turning back in the direction you had just come from.
You walk at a gradually increasing pace back up the hall, until a sudden crashing has you ducking in reflex. You turn around and you see a mangled Grab Pack just a metre away from your crouching position. Behind it, a jagged hole where the wooden planks were intact just seconds ago, the red smoke seeping out.
The voice that echoes throughout the building is so far from human that it freezes your blood. "Leave Playcare, or I'm coming for both of you."
"Run, run!" Dogday's voice raises an octave as he makes the desperate plea.
Your breath escapes you harshly, and you clamour back to your feet, sprinting out of the office building. The adrenaline helps you navigate your feet over debris and around corners, terrified that Catnap was on your tail as you flee.
