*Colby's Pov"

As I was finishing up unpacking my clothes, my mom's voice echoed through the house.

"Kids, come down here! The landlord and her granddaughters are here!" she yelled.

I let out a sigh. Meeting new people was never my favorite thing to do.

"Ugh, do we have to?" Amy protested.

"Now!" My mother yelled

Reluctantly, Jake, Amy, and I made our way downstairs to greet our new neighbors...How fun.

"Colby, can you get the door?" my mom asked me.

"Why didn't you get it? You were already right there," I grumbled.

"Because I don't feel like it, and you're closer to it now" she replied with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes and opened the door to let our neighbors in.

As we chatted, I tried to get a sense of their personalities. The grandma seemed grumpy and mean, while the older daughter was kind and generous, it almost made me sick, the younger girl was harder to read; she didn't say much and seemed neutral.

The older girl, Hartley, appeared to be around Amy and Jake's age, while the younger one, Y/n, seemed to be closer to my age.

About 10 minutes passed, and Celia, our landlord, was going over the house rules with our parents.

Hartley was trying to start up a conversation with Amy, who seemed less than thrilled. I considered stepping in to help start a conversation with Y/n when she beat me to it.

"How are you liking Valley View so far?" Y/n asked.

"It's okay...different from what we're used to...but not it's not to bad," I replied.

"Where are y'all from exactly?" she inquired with a smile.

"We move around a lot, too many places to name," I nervously responded.

"So, I guess it's pretty hard to make friends then," she remarked.

"Yeah, I haven't really had any friends," I replied, feeling awkward.

Shit why would I say that, that makes me sound like a complete loser.

"Well, we can be friends if you want," Y/n said with a smile.

"Yeah, that would be nice," I replied, smiling back.

After a while, Y/n and her family headed home. I was exhausted from traveling, Y/n seemed like a pretty cool person, and she was very nice.

I couldn't believe she actually wanted to be friends. I've never really had any friends, so I was thrilled to finally have a friend.
