As soon as we got on the ship, the captain marched up to me. "What happened? I want the truth. The net is broken, so explain." I already told them the truth. I have never lied to the captain before, so why didn't he believe me now. Sam came up to me and put an arm around my shoulders. "Captain, I think y/n is sick, and they overworked themselves. They must've fallen off the boat trying to pull up that heavy net by themselves, might I add. " She glared at him. "You already had them cleaning up a mess you guys made, and on top of that, trying to decipher a riddle about a made-up treasure! For a few days, I suggest you all cut back on the booze and parties unless you want to be the ones cleaning up. If you don't, I suggest finding yourself a new cook and deck hand" The crew just stared straight faced. Everyone knew that messing with Sam was a bad idea. The captain just looked away. "Fine. Y/n you will be sleeping in the basement so as to not get the others sick . "
"That'll make them even more sick!"
"TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT SAM BUT IM NOT GONNA RISK THE REST OF THE CREW OVER A SAD EXUSE OF A PIRATE!" The captain stomped away into the captains quarters after that. Everyone just stood there staring at me. "The fuck yall looking at?! Go to bed!" Sam commanded. Everyone started moving quickly to the crew's cabin, some tripping over others. "Cmon, let's get James" I nodded as Sam lead me down stairs and into the galley. The door behind the bar lead to James room. James studied medicine and traveled along with us to gather supplies from different lands and sometimes even books and collectibles. Sam knocked on the door, and a very agitated James opened the door. The man had black hair and black souless eyes. His hair was scattered, and his jaw clinched at the sight of us. Although he was very scary at times, he was quite handsome and kind. "What happened to you y/n?" His calm voice laced with worry. "Y/n fell off the ship trying to pull the nets up" Sam explained.
"All by themselves? Why wasn't Jeremy or Benny helping them?"
"The captain took all of us on the island, I thought they left Jeremy behind to help them until I heard his annoying flirts." she rolled her eyes.
James nodded and made way for us to get into his bedroom. James, being the doctor of the ship, had his own room. He used on side to store medical supplies, books, and journals. He had a huge map hanging above the cabinet. And a globe on the other side. We sat on his bed and came over to the other side of me. "Where are you hurt?" He asked getting out the cleaning spray. I swallowed hard knowing that shit would burn like he'll but showed him the mark on my ankle and the few cuts/bruises I got from my encounter. "You wanna tell me how this happened?"

"I got pulled off the boat by a large creature that can control you with it's voice." I quickly said, looking him dead in the eyes. He looked at me for a few moments before putting the back of his free hand to my forehead. " You're delusional. You have a fever." He simply stated then proceeded to spray and bandage my wounds. I squirmed around a lot due to the burn of the spray, but with the help of Sam holding me down despite my protest and biting at her hands and arms, James was done in a few minutes. "Make sure to rest and sleep in a warm place. It might be uncomfortable for a while but it will help when the fever settles. Here's some fever reduction" He said giving me a vile with a pink color goo in it. "What is this?" I asked. "It's a type of flower I crushed to make medicine
Feverfew is its name, and it's quite beautiful."

After a while, I left Sam and James alone so he could bandage up the bites I left on Sam. "Sorry, Sam!" I nervously chuckled and shut the door behind me. I could tell by the death stare she gave. I'm not having dessert for a while. I headed down to the cargo hold. The deepest part of the ship. Barrels and boxes were everywhere. I'd be lucky if I didn't wake up with a spider on me. The small circle windows gave me a view of the dark blue. I went to my makeshift bed I made from my second night down here. Hay with a itchy blue old blanket over it. I sighed as I sat down and pulled my sketch journal out of a nearby cabinet. I lit a candle and started drawing the creature I saw. Muscular body. That long blue hair. Sharp crimson eyes fit for a handsome face. His long Grey tail is almost like a shark. A scar on his perfect yellow chest. I wonder how he got it. Maybe fighting? As I finished my I heard glass breaking from upstairs. "I'm not cleaning that up bitch" I heard Jeremy say as he came down the stairs. "Hey lights out. Captain wants to see you bright in early."
"If it's about that riddle, I still don't have a clue what it means," I said. "Tough shit. Anyways, bye, have fun with the rats!"  He said as he shut the celler door. The breeze made my candle go out, leaving me in a blue tinted darkness due to the moon shining through the windows and the ocean. Jerk. I tried to get comfortable and finally found a good position, but I'm pretty sure it made me look like roadkill. Drifting off to sleep to the sounds of the ocean water moving around me.

After hours of uncomfortable sleep. I saw light shining from behind my eyelids. I opened them to see a mix of dull colors shining through the windows. I sat up to look into the dark ocean, and sure enough, through the water, I could see colors coming from the ocean floor. I started to hear a calming song. It sounded beautiful, making me want to follow it. Pulling my heart along with it's melody. I started to get up and go upstairs quietly as possible to make sure I didn't wake up the crew or, worse, the captain.  I made it to the deck of the ship and peered over the railings. The colors faded and the song stopped. I heard a deep whistling sound as water sprouted up from the water. A whale poked its head out and started swimming away towards the moon light. "What are you doing awake, captain's pet?" I heard a deep voice ask. I looked down to see the creature from earlier. "Uh I- I heard -I saw your lights your song. Uh what were you doing?" I studdered out. He gave me glare and signed. "Not that it's your business, I was healing a whale that your kind seemed to have impaled with a large metal stick." His gaze softened. "Why are you awake?" He asked. "I couldn't sleep. My makeshift bed isn't as good as my real one but at least I don't have to hear Jeremy's snoring." I explained. "I don't know who that is,nor do I care."  the creature said going back under the surface. "WAIT!" I yelled. "What?!"
"What is your name?"
"What?"
"Your name do mermaids have names?"
"I am not a mermaid" He said darkly.
"Sorry. Sirens do sirens have names? And could you tell me yours?"I asked giving him a nervous smile. "Yes sirens have names. And why the bloody hell would I give you mine?!" He hissed. "So we can be friends?" He glared at me for a moment and then sighed. "Walden," He huffed, then went under.

Walden. I couldn't help the shiver that went down my back from the cold night air. I need to get back to the celler. Hopefully, no one sees-. As I turned around, I was met with the eyes of Jeremy. "OH, I'm so ratting on you. What are you even doing out here talking to your "creature"? " He air quoted. I rolled my eyes and shoved pass him. "If you tell anyone, I will tell Sam you were the one who ate her last custered." I threatened. I could hear Jeremy huff. I went back to the celler and layed down.

Walden. Such a handsome name for a handsome man. Or siren. I laughed then tried to sleep.
