This one is definately not a theory, but it's not so much a rant either
The topic of this one is backstories (as you can obviously see)
In my opinion, all the backstories of the main (and most secondary) characters have aspects that make them different levels of sad
for example, Rengoku's backstory is sad but to a lower level because of how his father became after his mother died, meanwhile Obanai's backstory is sad to a higher level because of his ENTIRE FAMILY.
even backstories that aren't seen as sad by some, like Doma and Muzan, have aspects that make them sad.
Doma was robbed of a childhood and Muzan was going to be robbed of his adult hood (I know Muzan was kind of a shit already but honestly I would be too if I was pretty much slowly dying my entire life)
EVEN MITSURI HAS SAD ASPECTS TO HER BACKSTORY.
the only character I hate with a passion who I think has an awful (not in an emotional aspect) backstory is Hantengu, he literally has nothing about him I can excuse
if you're not sure about a character having sad aspects to their backstory just tell me them and I'll probably pull something sad(ish) out my ass for you so yeah
