Chapter 43

The next day, Michael arrived at Knight Mansion and waited for Reylan in the living room, taking a seat on the couch. Upon noticing his presence, Anaira greeted him warmly.

Anaira-(Smiling) Good morning Michael!

Michael stood up from the couch and responded promptly.

Michael-(Smiling politely) Good morning Ma'am.

Anaira- Hey Michael, I'm not your boss or anything, so you don't have to call me ma'am. Just call me Anaira, it's all good.

Michael-(Widening his eyes) No no ma'am I can't call you by your name.

She stood beside him and crossed her arms as she asked.

Anaira-Why? Is there a rule that you have to address me as ma'am?

Michael-(Confused) No ma'am.

Anaira- Then?

Michael- Ma'am, Sir will not be pleased with that. Please don't make it difficult for me.

Anaira-(Rolling her eyes) Your sir won't say anything to you. Don't worry.

Michael-Alright then, I won't refer to you as 'ma'am', but instead I'll address you as Mrs. Knight.

Anaira-(Flushed) Okay, you can do it.

Michael smiled with satisfaction, and then he noticed Anaira holding her bag and asked her about it.

Michael- By the way, are you going somewhere, Mrs. Knight?

Anaira- Starting today, I'll be working at the hospital.

Michael- Oh, that's great. Mrs. Knight, may I ask you a quick question?

Anaira-Sure, go ahead and ask your question.

Michael-Why do you never reveal yourself as the owner of Lifeline Chain of Hospitals and why have we never seen your pictures before?

Anaira- I've been pretty busy with my research, so I haven't had much time for events. My parents wanted me to concentrate on my studies and steer clear of the spotlight, so I've been avoiding any media attention.

Michael-That's a very nice thing and quite different from Sir who has been in the limelight since his early teenage years.

As they were engrossed in their conversation, Reylan descended the stairs.

Reylan- Anna, it's time to leave. Please gather all your belongings and let's head out.

Trio went to the hospital to check on the victims. Afterwards, Michael and Reylan went to the office.

(In office)

Reylan- Michael, do you know when Elijah will be arriving in New York?

Michael-(Checking his watch,) I believe Mr. Bianchi has already landed. Nick mentioned that he would come straight here from the airport.

Reylan- Ok.

After travelling from Canada for a business trip, Elijah arrived at Reylan's office, 30 minutes later. Michael welcomed Elijah and opened the door for him. As soon as Reylan saw Elijah, he stood up and they exchanged fist bumps. Then, both of them sat on the couch and had a conversation.

Elijah- I heard everything from Nick. How are the victims doing?

Reylan- There is a mix of stable and critical conditions among the victims. Recovery may take longer than expected due to the extremely dangerous nature of the poison. But Anna got it under control. She has conducted thorough research on poisons and is more than capable of managing this situation. I believe she will handle this.

Elijah- Can she handle this? It's pretty risky, you know.

Reylan-I get where you're coming from, but I have full confidence in her. Michael did some digging and found out she's a pro when it comes to medicines also. She's been researching medications for a while now, so it's best to let her handle this. I've increased security around her, but she has no idea.

Elijah- No worries, she's got it covered. Did your security team find anything? How did they manage to get in without being caught on camera?

Reylan- I haven't found anything yet, which is why I need your help.

Elijah- Got it, let me check that out for you.

Elijah got his laptop from Nicolas and started typing. After 15 minutes, he stopped and looked up to share his progress.

Elijah- Rey, I found an IP address that froze the CCTV footage. However, it's a private IP address that was immediately destroyed after use because the location appears to be near your hotel without any movement.

Reylan- That means first the CCTV was frozen then that person entered and injected the poison. Afterwards, he called Michael to let him know about the situation.

Elijah-Hmm, it seems like there's more than one person involved in this incident, and they are sending a warning to you.

Reylan- Do you think that's them?

Elijah- Nah, I don't think so. If they did something like that, they wouldn't tell us. Let's give the hotel another search, maybe we'll find something that others missed that could be a clue. I'll check the IP address again.

Reylan- Alright, let's give it a shot.

Elijah- I'll have my trusted team keep an eye on your hotel and office security. If anything fishy happens, we'll know about it.

Reylan- Alright, thanks Eli!

Elijah-(Giving Reylan a little nudge) Come on, buddy! I've been there for you before, and you know I've got your back. We're tight, right?

Then Reylan and Elijah fist bumped again, grinning at each other.
